Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

any late bottle droppers?

just curious.  DD just turned a year. i haven't even begun to make the switch off of bottles. i am in the process of trying to transition her to whole milk and she isn't reacting great so we are taking it slow. she drinks water out of a sippy all day but loves her bottle.

i'm going to start trying this weekend (work all week) but not in a huge rush to get it done today.

Anyone not switch right at the year mark?

  • We just dropped the nighttime bottle a couple of weeks ago.

  • DS is drinking milk, but still loves his bottle, I'm not going to force the issue. I give him milk in sippy's at meal times and at nap and bed time he gets a bottle. My Dr. said that 15 months is a good age to try to have him off the bottle

  • I don't think it's a big deal for a one year old to have a bottle.  I did try at one year, but he was really upset, didn't drink any milk, and then was up all night wanting milk.  My goal is 18 months which is next April.  I don't want to do it before then because he's cutting 4 teeth right now, we're moving in a month, and we're taking a plane-ride vacation in January.  So I'm not going to add taking his bottle away to the list of "big" changes for him :)

  • DD is 13 months and we're just starting the process. ?She has never been a good sleeper and a bottle is a big part of the night/nap routine. ?She will do a sippy cup at meals, but we're still doing 3-4 bottles/day for naps and nighttime. ?We have just transitioned to whole milk so I wanted to wait that out too. I will probably start with naps and then try to wean her off the night time bottle - that will be the hardest I think.?
  • DD still gets her bedtime bottle.  DH gives it to her and loves that time w/ her.  i want to drop it, but DH doesn't.
  • We are down to 3 bottles a day - wake up, nap and bedtime.  Some days she doesn't take all or one of them.  I'm going to use up the formula and bottle liners I have and see how things go.  I would love to drop all but the night time one very soon.

  • DS still takes 2-3 a day.  It's more of a comfort thing for him.  He does fine with the sippy too, I just don't want to push it right now.  I will try again around 18 mos.

Ditto. DS was three days shy of 18 months when we dropped it.

  • My DS will drink water from a sippy and has for months and months--but REFUSES to drink milk from one--only from his bottle.  It's been a battle and his pedi wants the bottle gone.  Ugh.

  • He dropped his morning bottle himself around a year, but he still takes one for nap and bedtime. We're not rushing him off -- don't see the need.

  • Ben is 21 months old.  He still gets 2 bottles a day (morning and night).  I can't get him to drink a substantial amount of milk from a sippy...so we're going with it for now.  I'm going to work on weaning him when he's 2.
  • We're at 2 bottles once in the AM and the other at night.  I'm in no hurry....I know he could go without the bottles but I worry more about him not getting enough fluids because he doesn't drink the sippies very fast.
  • Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why everyone is in such a rush to take the bottle away.  Your DD just turned 1 year, you don't need to rush it.  If she was going on 2, then I'd say that could be a problem.  At 1 year, DS was no where near ready to have the bottle taken away.

DS is 15 months old.  We just started this week transitioning him to whole milk.  I'm mixing it in his bottles with formula to use the rest of the formula up that we have.  I'm planning on stopping the bottle completely after the holidays.

  • Kian is still on bottles and I have not even given it any thought as to when I will stop giving them to him...I am not in any rush and it does not bother me that he still has them.

  • Just dropped our last bottle last week at 15 1/2 months. You are not late at just over a year. Give it time and don't rush it.
