so is lunch meat bad to eat while your pregnant? I have heard so little about it and I have been eating it lately and now I am worried. How is it bad for you during pregnancy?
It is just the idea that lunch meat can become infected with bacteria very easily. You can eat lunch meat but you are supposed to heat it first. To me that is gross, but to each her own! If you eat lunch meat that does have harmful bacteria, like Listeria, it can make you and baby very sick! Your body will not have the same immune strength it did pre pregnancy, so even if you have never had a problem before, you could have one while pregnant!
I actually posted on this yesterday and there's one response from a microbiologist that made me feel better. I say eat it, but don't eat tons of it and make sure it's from a good place (and I'd say not cut from a slicer at a deli)
Another thing you can do is ask the person at the deli counter how long you can keep your cold cuts. I think what I remember from the last time I asked, the guy said 3 days for meat, and 7 for cheese. So buy what you need and use it right away. I am not really a cold cut fan, so I do not have an overwhelming need to eat it, but if you love cold cuts... go easy on them and definitely only eat what is really fresh!
