Pregnant after 35

When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

I'm sure this has been asked a gazillion times, but I was just wondering.  It's been a little while since my last pregnancy and I feel like I just look blobby, not "bumpy".  No need for maternity clothes - I'm thinking a couple more weeks at least unless I have a dramatic change.  I lost weight just before getting pregnant and during the first tri (and a little in the 2nd) so I just look like I gained it back.  Anyway, just wondering what others' experiences are/were.

Re: When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

  • Around 14-15 weeks.  This is my first pregnancy.  I'm all belly.  I'm pretty much gaining the textbook amount of weight each week.

  • Everyone is very different.... I didn't wear maternity clothing until just shy of 7  months.
  • I think I was 17 or 18 weeks.  My regular clothes still fit but were uncomfortable. I figured if I was going to have to buy them, I might as well get as much use out of them as I can.  Everyone is different.  I would much rather be comfortable.

  • Oh, I know everyone's different - body types, shape of pregnancy, etc. - I was more just curious.
  • This is my third healthy pregnancy (two miscarriages before) and I am wearing maternity pants, mainly because I am getting a belly and also I can't STAND anything tight on my stomach.
  • 22 weeks--2nd pregnancy
  • I had to graduate to maternity pants this week, this is my 3rd pregnancy...

  • I'm at 18 weeks and I'm not in maternity clothes yet. I actually still fit into some of my jeans but I don't wear them because they are just to uncomfortable. Lately I've been stylin' leggings, a hip t-shirt or sweater and boots. I LOVE the leggings so I'll stick with them for as long as I can. I'm sure the day for maternity clothes will arrive at some point. I can wait :)
  • 9 weeks.  I already have a potbelly and it got really bloated quickly, even though I've lost weight.

  • With first pg I gradually moved into maternity... pants starting around 12w and all maternity pants by 18w; tops I was in all maternity around 22w.

This time, I was in all my normal clothes until 18w 1d, at which point I woke up with a big old baby belly and had to go maternity pants and tops that day. Very different experiences!

  • Unfortunately for me it was around 12 weeks. I was hoping to make it longer but no such luck. But that was really just pants. I just started wearing maternity tops.

  • About 9 weeks for my pants, it just made me feel better. Just in the last 2 weeks you can tell I am pregnant and not fluffy.
  • With my first, I was about 5 months..

Dont even remember with my second (poor second child syndrome kid)

With this one, I started wearing maternity jeans about a month ago and wearing maternity pants to work about 2 weeks ago.

I can still get away with wearing regular shirts, I just put a long tank top under them.

Like someone else above said.....I cannot stand anything tight on my stomach.

  • With my first, not until 5 mos, and I then I got away with regular size sun dresses, etc. and didn't buy much other than two awesome pairs of maternity jeans (well worth the money to buy high-end).  This time, I was bloated and bulgy by 6 weeks!!!!  I can fit my regular jeans, but they look awful (can you say "muffin top"?), can't fit my skinny leg jeans.  I'm thinking I'll be pulling out the ol' maternity wear at around 10-12 weeks. :(
  • This is my fourth... 12 weeks or so.
  • This is my first.  Not really until about 22 weeks.  Until about 15-16 weeks I didn't need anything (just skinny jeans wouldn't fit).  Then I wore regular pants unzipped (using a hair band to connect the button & buttonhole) and skirts/dresses at work, at home lounge pants etc fit nicely.  Maternity pants actually would fall down.  Then, suddenly, my belly just expanded.  I'm now at 27.5 and wear maternity pants all the time, but some stretchy skirts from before still fit, and many sweaters do as well.  I even wear most of my jackets at work, just open and with a maternity cami or blouse underneath.  It's actually been kind of fun, I've found clothes in my closet I've not worn for years that I suddenly discover still fit and they've gone for another round.
  • I started at 15-16 weeks with pants just b/c I was tired of my regular pants being so tight and did not get the bella band. I have not gained any weight yet at 17 weeks but the maternity clothes are much more comfortable.
