Logistics of checking out of the hospital with twins

I'm sure I'd get the answer to this in just a few days by living it, but just curious now.  When DS was born, DH got the infant seat and brought it in.  Once he was checked that he was in his seat properly, DH pulled the car up, I was then wheeled down by the nurse and had DS on my lap.  Will they do 2 trips with babies on my lap, will I have one and DH will carry the other, should I take my DSNG?  I know it's not a big deal, but seems like EVERYTHING (even the little things) changes when you have more than 1 baby.

Re: Logistics of checking out of the hospital with twins

  • I carried one twin out in my arms and dh carried the other out in her car seat...he had already pulled the car up and loaded in all our stuff...I thought I would get a wheelchair ride to the door, but no such luck...
  • Loading the player...
  • We had the 2 snugrides and DH carried both himself while a nurse wheeled me out. He had brought the bags to the car beforehand.
  • we brought home one baby one day, then the other two another day. when we brought miles and linus home together, i was wheeled down to the car carrying two babies. and a hospital porter had all our stuff on a cart.

it was fun, i wish i had pictures.

  • My husband loaded up the car with all of my stuff before hand.  Then he came up with the snugrides and the nurse just wanted to make sure we had seats but we didn't put them in it.  Then I was wheeled to the front door and holding both babies.  The nurse helped us get them in the snugrides at the entrance and then we went home.

  • We loaded a cart w/ our stuff and put the babies in carseats.  DH carried both carseats and a nurse pushed our cart.  They wouldn't let me push/carry anything, but I walked myself out.  On the way out the questions about twins started.
  • At our hospital they babies could not be put in seats and had to be held.  The mother had to be wheeled out of the hospital with babies in arms.  I had been home from the hospital for 3 days and the had a wheelchair ready and put each baby in my arms while DH got the van to the door.  We had to then put the babies in the carriers.
  • One on the wheelchair with me, H carried the other, and a second nurse came along to push the cart with all our crap.  When H brought the car seats up he had the car pulled up to the entrance.
  • We rolled them out in the DSNG.  DH went and got the car and we put them in and then they checked our seats before we could leave.

  • I carried one, nurse carried one.  DH had to wait with the car in the Emergency driveway.

  • DH brought the DSNG up to our room with the seats snapped in- he pushed them out and the nurse pushed me out.
  • We brought our twin stroller up and put the boys into the car seats and then clicked them into the stroller.

The nurse then pushed me as I was holding our 20 month old DD and my DH pushed the babies to the elevator and we waited in the special area for moms & babies for him to get our truck.

DH brought the car up and we put the boys in and then I got into the nice and toasty truck and off we went home.

I don't think our hospital checked our seats to make sure the boys were in correctly.  It could be because we already had a baby?  I am not sure I just know it was crazy trying to check out, I was trying to pack everything up and get the babies dressed and ready and my MIL & FIL came up to - and she was getting in my way.

My room was packed with the twins, DD, DH, MIL, FIL, nurse & me.  DH was supposed to leave our DD home with his parents who were watching her, but his mom insisted they come and help (cough, cough) get the twins home.

I told DH after lunch - so he comes up right when my lunch was served - everyone was eating my lunch (DH & DD) and I got nothing.  I was planning on having a nice lunch, nursing the boys and then getting them ready.

I was just as crazy when we brought our DD 20 months before!

  • we used the DSNG.  I walked out of the hospital and dh pushed the twins.
