The way they worded it makes me think that the manager and dad/officer might have gotten into a fight.

Yeah, I was thinking that as well.  Though if it was because the manager tried to kick them out in the first place then I can't say I really blame the dad...

This.  I would have gotten into a verbal pissing match too.

And Army...I didn't read the comments.  I'm afraid too.

Don't. It's a lot of "peeing is natural, too- but you don't see me doing it in a Target" and "can't she do that somewhere else?". Bah.

Yeah...and my response that their right to take a whiz isn't protected by law probably wouldn't go over very well. That and me telling them to take a basic biology class about how mammary glands work and thank nursing mommas for the survival of our species before the invention of formula.

  • That's so frustrating! Those comments really got to me too. Like the one that said, "I was a nursing mother. This is ridiculous. Why couldn't she just take five minutes and do that in the bathroom?"

BLAH! Who wants to sit in the bathroom and nurse their newborn? How would that be comfortable or sanitary or easy? And, though I haven't yet nursed, I doubt it only takes 5 minutes to nurse.

I plan on nursing anywhere my baby needs to be nursed. I almost hope someone tries to tell me to stop... they would get an earful!

  • the manager says they don't discourage BFing in the store- yeah, most likely so long as it's done in the restroom or changing room.

When I have to nurse while I'm out, I usually choose to do so in a dressing room or at least some area where I am inconspicuous, because I have a very distractable baby and breasts large enough that it's hard to be discreet, and I'm just more comfortable that way.  But I've seen more boob showing on girls in low cut tops.

  • Oh Target, I love the sheer consumerist pleasure of your magnificent MIC crap balanced by your plastic reuseable bags and token organic products...but this is just bad, even for you.

  • I would really like to read another article about this incident.. I want to know how a BFing mom was a threat to other guests. Was she practicing her aim? And if it was that the dad and the manager got in a fight... what was the comment that caused the fight?
  • that makes me want to go out, right now, into the middle of the street, and BF my child, right there, no cover.

(but then i might get hit by a car and i EP, so ...)

  • In our local targets, there are signs posted that say "According to local law, breastfeeding is legal in any part of our store."

Unless both of her boobs are out and she's not nursing I don't see the deal.

Sadly, I doubt you are going to get any more info.

I bet it went something like this, though:

Security Guard: Ma'am, you can't do that in here.

    Lady: Why not?

    Security Guard: It's illegal.

    Dude: No, it isn't.

Security Guard: Yes it is. I am a security guard, I know.

Dude: No it isn't. I am a police officer, I know.

:::pissing match ensues between SG and officer, during which someone says "let's call the manager, then.":::

:::Several employees stop to watch the wreckage:::

    etc, etc, etc.
