We won't be finding out what were having but we can't seem to agree on ANY girl names although we've had boy names settled on forever. He hates my picks, I don't like his. Anyway, I thought some outside input would be helpful. Your honest opinion about the following names would be much appreciated!
Kate
Juliet
Rose
Isabel
Lila (lie-la)
Sarah
Isla (eye-la)
Update: What about Sienna? Our last name starts with an S though so would it be to matchy?
Re: What are your thoughts on these girl names?
Love Kate..."Cate" was at the top of our girl names list.
I like Juliet, Rose, Isabel, and Lila.
I like the name Sarah, but because of when I grew up...everyone I went to school with was Sarah or Kim or Jennifer...or even Nicole. So while I like it it makes me think of 4th grade when they had to number the Sarahs because there were so many in my class.
Isla isn't my favorite...mostly because of the chosen pronunciation.
Money Matters The other half's blog.
EJ is growing up too fast!
I like Lila, is there another spelling? Its really pretty
Ditto! I love Juliet also.
Like them all but Isla, cause I wouldn't have pronounced that right at all! Love Sarah, but I've just always loved the name (and can't beat Princess as a meaning!)
Kate - love it. Very cute. Sweet, simple and classic.?
Juliet - NMS. Too much romeo and juliet connotation for me, I couldn't get past that.?
Rose - love it. Sweet and simple and classic.?
Isabel - Too popular for my taste these days. ?But its a pretty name.?
Lila (lie-la) - NMS. And bad memories from a character on Dexter. lol I think a lot of people would have trouble pronouncing it too. I never like names that you have to guess on their pronunciation from the spelling.?
Sarah - Love it. Very sweet, simple, and classic.?
Isla (eye-la) - See Lila (without the bad connotations). ?
?
You're lucky you have so many name choices to choose from. ?My dh always nixed so many names I liked from my lists (thankfully never favorites). ?
My Mom Blog My Writing Blog
I dont think theres an alternate spelling :-/
I seriously LOVE the name but am turned off by the fact that I think people will?mispronounce?it all the time.?
Kate - I love it.
Juliet - I love it. Makes me think of the Shakespearan reference (of course?) and also of Lost (where I started to reeeeally love it b/c I love her).
Rose - It's pretty, might be sort of popular right now. Makes me think of Titanic and an older woman/grandma type.
Isabel - Just seems a little too popular right now for me. Is it the same or similar to the Twilight girl? It's a beautiful name, but not my favorite.
Lila (lie-la) - love this name...spelled this way, I think you'll get a lot of Lee-la and Lill-a. Lyla says Lie-la to me, but Lila is so much prettier. I love it. I love all variations of Lily, Lila, Lilia, etc...though Lily is becoming so popular, I wonder if the variations will as well.
Sarah - Beautiful, simple, common...it feels like the most common of all the names on your list, sort of unexpected to me. I know a wonderful girl named Sarah, so it resonates beautifully with me
Very pretty. Would sound beautiful with your last name. Now I'm super curious what middle name you'd go with
Isla (eye-la) - I have always looooved this name (Isla Fisher), but now I have to admit I've always said it Iss-luh. Eye-luh is really really pretty too. I actually think you could get away with it more b/c there is the famous actress with the name. I like it more and more the more I google and think about it and respond in this post. That's really pretty. I'd be prepared for lots of people saying "iss-luh" though b/c my dumbazz has always thought that was how it was pronounced! LOL.
ETA: Also, a close family friend is named Ilsa (ill-suh), and Isla makes me think of that too. I'm liking Isla more and more and more...
I like Kate best but that's because my kiddo's name is Katie
Also, Isla (is-lah) -- like island -- isn't a mispronounciation, peeps! Don't feel dumb, we all worship Madonna, you can admit it
(Plus, we live in California, where there are bound to be lots of spanish speakers saying it that, right?)

ditto mrsemm. I was trying to think of an alternative to the spelling to make it easy for people.
Im confused. ?What does madonna have to do with it? and yeah it is a mispronunciation because she said she was thinking of naming her kid Isla (eye-la).
Madonna wrote and recorded "La Isla Bonita." Which is instantly what I thought of when I saw the name Isla
I'm pointing out that "feeling like a dumbass" (as StefAndTodd previously stated) for thinking that Isla (as in Isla Fisher) was always pronounced "is-lah" isn't necessary because that's one pronunciation of the word, which means "island" in Spanish, so she's not far off. It has nothing to do with the OP saying what she intended the pronunciation of the name to be.

Isla is one of my most favorite names ever so that gets my vote. DH is not a big fan otherwise Estelle could very well have been an Isla.
I love Sienna.
I actually know a 3 year old girl named Sienna. It's very pretty, and not very common. I've never heard of anyone besides the one I know even interested/ask about it until now.
ditto - very pretty.
I know a couple Sierra's but not Sienna. ?
I think we have almost the exact same list for girl names!!
I LOVE Kate, but Dan doesn't like it, Isabel is on our list but I'm a bit wary of how popular it is lately, Lila was on our list when we were pg with Natalie, I love it. And I LOVE Isla, but the pronounciation may be tough for people...honestly I think most people will pronounce it correctly since it has gained a bit of popularity in recent years....and with celebs like Isla Fisher out there.
Kate- LOVE. Esp with your last name.
Juliet- nms but it's cute with Anna.
Rose- good for a middle name
Isabel- too popular for my taste right now
Lila (lie-la)- LOVE it. Super love.
Sarah- Love it also, classic. Love the "h" on the end, it finishes it off nicely.
Isla (eye-la)- It's a little exotic, but that's why I like it. SO what if it's mispronounced, she'll just have to set 'em straight. if she's anything like her mama she won't mind.
Oh and Sienna I think sounds good with your last name. Although our neighbors have 2 girls named Sheridan and Sienna and we secretly call them "The Hotel and the Crayon". We are so mean.
Both of these have been at the top of my list for girl's names for a couple of years - great minds think alike
Me too! LOVE LOVE LOVE Lila.
Kate Well, Katie is one of the most beautiful names in the world, so Kate is one of my faves...
Juliet NMS
Rose NMS
Isabel I still like the name, it's just sooooo popular. Still.
Lila (lie-la) I like Lila. My new-ish niece is Lilah. I like it with the H because it's clear it's a soft a at the end.
Sarah Pretty
Isla (eye-la) I don't care for names that I don't know how to pronounce. Is-la would be the phonetic pronunciation and I'm sure that's what most people would say. I hate having to spell out my last name, I can't imagine constantly doing it with my first.
Update: What about Sienna? Our last name starts with an S though so would it be to matchy? I like Sienna. It's cute.
I really like all of your names! Two other options. My friend has a baby named Lila, but they spell it Lilah. Similarly, I have a friend who wanted to name her baby Isla, but didn't like the spelling. They went with Ayla. I think it's beautiful. I'm sure their daughter will have to teach people the correct pronunciation, but that is not a big deal.
Lastly, I love Sienna. But, then again, I named my daughter Brooke and our last name starts with a B and is one syllable (which I think is the epitomy of matchy-matchy!) But, we loved the first name and it was the ONLY one we both agreed on 100%. So, that is a long way of saying, if you love the name, don't worry about it being matchy. At least I didn't.
If you name your daughter Siena, you can get her a souvenir shirt in Italy!
That's what the neighbor's did for their daughter (who is a Sienna).
