Any of you do Christmas decorating yourself...without the hubs?

DH has been under a lot of stress at work lately and has been working late and is too tired to do anything when he gets home.  He is a scrooge when it comes to Christmas anyway and would much rather skip it altogether, much less do any decorating.  He loves the "true meaning" of Christmas, but hates how commercialized it is, so I think he would like to boycott.  But this leaves me to spread the holiday cheer (decorate, buy gifts, etc.) for DD's sake.  I just wish we could do it as a family...especially since this is DD's first Christmas.  Makes me sad. :-(  I know DD doesn't know the difference, but I do.

  • The only thing H has done was help me fluff the tree for 5 minutes.

He's not into decorating like I am. =(

  • I do it all except the heavy lifting. He gets everything out for me, I decorate and put the boxes away.
  • I decorate the tree and inside but dh does the lights outside.  Maybe once you decorate he'll get into the holiday spirit?

yeah, this is usually what i can talk him into doing for me too.  i'm grateful for that. :-)

  • Yeah, I pretty much do it all. He'll help a little, but he just really doesn't care about it at all.
  • Yup! I do all the decorating for holidays around here. I don't mind it though. DH would only screw it up :-)
  • Last year I did it all by myself while he was out of town for work. I thought he would like the pleasant surprise!

Instead he got mad that I climbed in/out of the attic 4-6 times with heavy boxes, including our tree and put it all up by myself at 27w pg!

we skipped putting anything up last year because we figured it was our only year "off" of Christmas decorations and dd didn't want me over doing it either.  before he left this morning he told me where the Christmas decoration boxes were "in case I wanted to get them down" from the attic.  lol...nice. :-)

  • I did it myself this year. DH just helped me get everything out of the attic. He hates fluffing the tree, putting the lights on or decorating it. So I did it on Saturday while he was working.

  • I do all the decorating - he's just not that into it (although he enjoys the finished product). I really love to decorate and make things just right, so I don't mind. He always goes with me to get the tree, of course, and puts it up, and moves boxes in/out of attic, etc. When C is older and we have more kids I would like to make it a family event though, and I hope he'll tolerate it for their sake (or mine!). I picture hot chocolate, Christmas music, the fireplace going, etc.
  • DH is letting me the do the decorating but he is really into shopping for K and making the holidays feel special. We are also celebrating St. Nicolas Day on the 6th though we are going to fill her shoes with puffs and yogurt melts instead of candy.
  • I have done it myself in the past - would just sort of depend on his availability, but if he was around we would have some wine and put ormaments on the tree.

This year it was a team effort. He fluffed the tree while I set up. I did the lights and he did the ornaments while I fed the baby. For the rest of the stuff, he mostly brought up the boxes and took things out while I set them up and put them away.
