Babies: 0 - 3 Months

6 hours between feedings, but only 3 hours of sleep

Henry last ate about 9:30 last night, and we got him ready for bed, but he didn't fall asleep until 12:30! He didn't wake up to eat again until 3:30, but that 6 hour stretch didn't do us much good! No matter what we do, it seems that 12:30 - 1:00am is his bedtime.

  • Bristol is almost the same way. Thankfully, dh took her after I finished nursing her around 930/10 and I went to bed!

  • Ugh that stinks.  You might want to try putting him to bed earlier then 9:30.  We had this same problem night after night in the first month and started doing her bath at 7:45 and last feeding before bed around 8:15.  She goes down easily.  When they get over-tired they fight sleep and I'm wondering if by 9:30 your LO is overtired and is fighting it until 12:30.

    He's adorable BTW!

  • We have the same issue... I try every night to put Molly down between 8-9 and she is alert and perky until midnight!  We are lucky... I usually go ahead and feed her around 11:30 because she's hungry again by then... and she will sleep a good 5-6 hours.  I just don't know how to get her to fall asleep earlier- if you figure it out let me know!

  • I was having the same problem.  I started doing bath time at 7:30 and feeding her as soon as bath time was over.  She now goes down between 830 and 9 and *usually* sleeps until about 4 or 5

  • Do you have a bedtime routine? That has helped us alot. We start at 7 and do another feeding at 10 before we go to bed and that will last them till about 4 now.

  • The magic hour for DD is 12 as well.  Sometimes we can get her to bed at 11, but not very often.  She seems to be most awake from 9-12 ish.  It drives us crazy!

Talked to pedi about it, she said it is normal for babies this age, and that we should wait until she is bigger (13-14 lbs) to try to mess with it, and we'll have more success then.

  • Weird, hey? My LO ate at 7 pm, and then again at 10 pm (was awake pretty much the whole time between those two) and then didnt sleep till 12:30 am...

  • We went through this exact same thing for about 3 weeks straight. Finally DH just started staying up with him so I could get a few extra hours of sleep. Then all the sudden about a week ago he changed and started going down around 10. For your sake I hope that happens for you as well!! GL
