Cookie Swap Recommendations!

My family has decided to start an annual Cookie Swap for the holidays. Let me first start out by saying that we are VERY competitive (but fun!) so I need to win this!! :)

Categories are Best Tasting, Most Attractive, Most Festive, Best Presentation, Most Original, Best Non-Cookie and Judges Favorite. (the judges are 5 little cousins ranging from 2-12 years old....tough crowd!).

I would love your suggestions!!!

Re: Cookie Swap Recommendations!

  • We do one every year! Some of the biggest hits I've personally made are:

Chocolate sugar cookies (we cut into snowflake shapes and decorate with white royal icing) they look so pretty!

    and..

Cappuccino Love Bites--they are like a Mocha in a cookie! So yummy!

  • These cookies are a little different from your typical christmas cookies.  https://www.wunderland.com/WTS/Andy/CookingWithMe/Calico.html   Essentially they are just sugar and M&M's. My mom only makes them at Christmas time and she uses the holiday M&M's.  They look like little puffs of snow with red and green M&M's.  They are sweet and sometimes hard to make (hard to get the meringues to set).  But I love them and they are a great non-traditional cookie.  Kids always seem to love them.
  • I guess these peanut butter balls could be considered a non-cookie? Seriously.. these things are stupid good. I don't really ask people for recipes when they make things.. but I made my mother track her friend down and send it to me. Personally, I think they are heaven. Of course, I am a HUGE peanut butter chocolate lover. However, I wasn't the only one at the party completely raving about them...I plan on making them for a Cookie Swap party this year.. maybe even find a couple other reasons to make them again.

I cut way back on sugar and butter.  The key to managing their sticky factor is to keep them frozen while dipping in chocolate.  Enjoy.  Mo

"This recipe is so good that I double it whenever I make it. Since it is peanut butter
balls dipped in chocolate it is almost like candy. Real buckeyes are nuts that grow on
trees and are related to the horse chestnut."

    INGREDIENTS:

    1 1/2 cups peanut butter
    1 cup butter, softened
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 cups confectioners' sugar [I use 4 cups]
    4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
[I substitute milk chocolate for some.]

    DIRECTIONS:

    1
In a large bowl, mix together the peanut butter, butter, vanilla and confectioners'
sugar. The dough will look dry. Roll into 1 inch balls and place on a waxed
    paper-lined cookie sheet.
    2
Press a toothpick into the top of each ball (to be used later as the handle for
dipping) and chill in freezer until firm, about 30 minutes.
    3
Melt chocolate chips in a double boiler or in a bowl set over a pan of barely
simmering water. [I microwave them.]  Stir frequently until smooth.
    4
Dip frozen peanut butter balls in chocolate holding onto the toothpick. Leave a
small portion of peanut butter showing at the top to make them look like Buckeyes.
Put back on the cookie sheet and refrigerate until serving.

  • My friends and I are thinking of doing one, too. I think it's a great idea!

As far as recipes, try Googling Cookie Swap. I don't have the URL at work, but there's an official cookie swap website with a TON of recipes on it.

  • i have tons of cookie makers in my family so when I wanted to first participate, i knew that i had to do something unique.  I have a mrs fields cookie cookbook (not with me right now), but I chose to make her Lemon poppy seed cookies, and they are to die for.  soft lemony, wonderful :)  Since i dont have the book, i found it online.  Plus, look for any of her other recipes, they are all great

  • Ok here is a recipe for the BEST chocolate chip cookies ever!  They are so soft and stay soft!! I am always asked for the recipe when I make them.  It makes a lot so you can cut the ingredients in half.

For non-cookies..... I made these 4 times this year and EVERYONE has loved them!!  I got them recipe from a lady I work with.

    1 pkg oreo cookies

    1 pkg cream cheese (softened)

    white chocolate

Crush oreos in a bag with rolling pin till no chunks remain.  Put in big bowl.  Add cream cheese and mix with hands until a dough forms.  Put in fridge for about half hour.  Roll into little balls and place on waxed paper.  Drizzle tops with white chocolate.

Super simple but oh so good!!

  • I won a cookie swap last year with chocolate chip cookies--just google "New York Times chocolate chip cookie recipe". They're sooooo good. You make the dough a day ahead and let it sit in the fridge, then bake them. It's the only cc cookie recipe I'll ever use!
