DISCLAIMER: This is not to be taken too seriously & I'm more or less posting a random thought that came into my head.
BF & I weren't TTC but were also hit or miss about preventing (irresponsible, I know....flame away if you want).
We've been telling more & more people now that we're nearing the 2nd trimester & have been getting a lot of "congratulations" from family/friends. I know saying "congrats" is the proper & polite thing to do when someone is having a baby but it's not like we succeeded at something. Technically, we failed at preventing so "congrats" seems a little strange considering the situation when you really think about it.
Don't get me wrong...we're very excited & happy to be having a baby & I appreciate everyone's congratulations. I'm just overthinking things (like I tend to do).
That is all.
ETA: See above disclaimer. This is not to be taken seriously & I am not expecting people to say anything other than "Congratulations". Simply overthinking things.
Seriously, LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!
Guess that's the last time I'll be posting a random thought/feeling.
Re: Unplanned pregnancies & "congrats"
I agree.
Totally agree with this!
I don't think people are usually congratulating you getting pregnant, per se, so much as they are congraatulating the fact that you will soon be welcoming a new family member into the world. It's not "Congrats on his sperm meeting you egg!" it's "Congrats that you will have a LO here soon in our lives!"
And as OP said, no other response is appopriate. Would you rather they say "What the hell were you thinking?" Unfortunately, I would think there are some people who get less than enthusiastic responses and would give anything for a better one, if for no other reason than anything else would make you feel like crap.
Did anyone read the first sentence of my post????
I REALIZE it is the ONLY appropriate response & am not expecting any other response. Just overthinking things...
Should have known better than to actually post this. Whatever.

Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.

What would you rather hear? - I guess the 'appropriate' response would be "sorry your half-a$$ attempts at birth control failed." ....?? Can you imagine if someone said that to you????
Youre excited, people are recieving it well ... so why dwell on it. I got pregnant, unwed at 19, the first time around and heard rude comments galore - Its quite a blessing (and rare) to have people mind their manners. Enjoy it.
I like your post! haha It made me laugh, because I have often wondered, faced with the news of an unplanned pregnancy from a friend, what the appropriate response is! I mean, of course I usually go with "congratulations", but I always wonder if there is something more appropriate to say. I don't really think "FAIL" is appropriate, but it would be funny!!!!!!!!! haha
Dude, actually I think you are the one overreacting!! You posted a random thought, people are allowed to post random thoughts back at you.
My random thought is, from someone who took 4 years to get pregnant, yes a massive congratulations is in order because you succeeded at something pretty major actually.
LOL @ all these serious responses to a non-serious post.
Maybe getting pregnant is not a serious issue for you because you didn't even have to try, but don't expect other people not to take a post like this seriously. Walk in my shoes for 5 minutes and you'd get real serious, real fast.
This.
But you're kinda right. It is a weird salutation when ya think about it. BF and I were pretty lousy at the "pull-out" and here we are!
you seem hella obnoxious. Congrats on being irresponsible with your birth control!
It sure did. Your "innocent" little post is not at all entertaining to a lot of people. Thank yourself, sweetie.
LMAO! I like this. DH is a 'gamer' and uber geek, so I think he'd up-the-anty on this one and make it an EPIC FAIL.
w00t for babies!
I have to agree. I know you didn't intend it to come across that way, but it seems pretty insensitive to speak so flippantly about the subject considering the many women visiting these boards who have struggled with infertility or loss.
