First - upon arriving home, he didn't immediately start on playing Oblivion on the PS3 like he normally does - just changed clothes, laid on the sofa and stayed there until dinner. I made (almost) homemade chicken soup w/matzo balls and grilled cheese, hopefully the soup will help.
Then - he mentioned calling in sick tomorrow, which he never does....now he's sound asleep.
