So I was talking to the lady I sit next to at work. She knows we are TTC-and has let me know she had problems getting pregnant which is why she only has 1 son. This was 25 years ago and I was asking her questions about how long they tried, etc. I let her know we have been ref to a fertility spec and are starting the testing process. All of a sudden another co-irker who obvisouly overheard our conversation butted in going on about her friend who tried for 9 years and as soon as she stopped thinking about it and relaxed bam got pregnant. My co-worker and I kind of stopped and looked at each other-not really sure what to say. What would you have done? I know she meant well-but she really didnt have anything to add and we were having a personal conversation-albeit in public.

    Ugh if I had a nickel for everytime I heard someone say that crap.  Or the "I know a woman who adopted and then..."  Just take it with a grain of salt.  People can be ignorant, especially when it comes to IF.

    I initially would've been pissed at your co-worker and politely changed the subject.  But..looking back on it, as you said, you were having the convo in public.  Some people take that as an open invite to chime in.  I would just let it go and let it serve as a lesson to not have such personal convos with that particular co-worker in earshot, unless of course you want her input.

    I am sure she only meant well, but hearing this kind of thing is really irritating to me.  Is there a policy against shaking people where you work? Wink

    Hell yea...a nickle for every time...I'd be rich.. well at least be able to buy a new wardrobe. 

    I would have rolled my eyes and said "thanks for the advice" probably a little too rudely... 

    Sorry people are so ignorant...but it happens. Glad you have a co worker (the 1st one you mentioned) you can talk to that has been through it and understands you.

    07/02/13: HSG #2= all clear
    07/15/13: Start Lupron 10 ius
    07/25/13: Suppression check
    07/28/13: Start stims (225IUs Follistim + 75IUs Menopur) drop to 5 IUs Lupron
    08/01/13: Monitoring: 12 follicles all about 10mm, E2- 313
    08/04/13: Monitoring: 18 follicles (15mm, 13mm, a few 11mm, rest 10mm or below) E2- 1,505
    Start Augmentin- antibiotic prep
    08/06/13: Monitoring: 13 follicles (18mm, 17mm, rest b/w 15mm-16mm!) Ready to trigger!! E2- 2,248
    08/08/13: ER-- 14R, 13M, 10F 
    08/11/13: One fertilized late, we now have 11 embryos!
    08/13/13: 5dt-- 2 blasts (Sheldon and Penny) 3AA and 3BB, none to freeze
    8/23/13: BFFN... Sheldon and Penny didn't stick**

    **8/29/13: Follow up... bad fragmentation issues. Changing protocol to Antagonist for round #2 coming soon! Also started on 81mg Aspirin after getting blood panel done and found out I have PAI-1**

    **Oct 2013: After large cysts, finally starting IVF #2**
    IVF w/ICSI #2 (Antagonist Protocol)
    BCPs started back in Sept due to cysts
    10/27/13: Start stims (225 IUs Gonal-F + 75 IUs Menopur)
    11/03/13 - 11/05/13: Add Ganirelix to the mix
    11/06/13: 3 follicles at 18mm-- Ready to trigger!
    11/08/13: ER-- 17R, 13M, 8F
    11/13/13: 5dt-- 2 blasts (Luke and Leia) 5AB and 4AB, 1 frostie
    11/20/13- 11/23/13: light positives on FRERs and Wondofos
    11/22/13: BFN per RE office (under HCG of 10)
    11/27/13: CP ::sigh::

    *12/03/13: Follow up...great response and quality this time, was given 50% chance of it working, just didn't stick. Great plan for 2014! 

    **Jan 2014: Last IVF of our SRP**
    IVF w/ICSI, freeze all, then FET
    12/27/13: Start BCPs
    01/19/14: Stims (375 IUs Gonal-F + 75 IUs Menopur)

    I probably would have half-smiled and said "good for her...." then turned back to the lady I was originally talking to and continued the conversation.  I am kind of a master at passive aggressiveness though.  Stick out tongue

    I wasn't pissed. Just confused- I mean if I am within earshot to a conversation I have nothing to contribute to-I dont contribute. It was just akward-my other co-worker and I didnt really know what to say after that. Hmm

    Yeah, I don't get why some people feel compelled to say something about a subject they honestly know nothing about and join a conversation they were not involved in.  This happens at my work alot it is weired.

    Why is it that people think the "sit back, do nothing, and everything comes pouring in" approach works for everything?  People give this same advice to single people looking for love ("Mr. Right will come along when you're not looking"), or unemployed people ("yeah, take that cruddy job and the next thing you know you'll get offered something better").  Why can't people just say "I know that's hard for you.  I wish I had advice to offer you that could help.  Since I don't, I'm happy to listen."???  Why can't people say that?

    I hate the relax and "bam" you'll get pregnant line...it is so frustrating.  I just don't understand what makes people think it is good advice.  I don't think I would have said anything, I probably just would have stared and nodded.  Sorry you had to hear it again!

    I hate when people say that stuff.. I have heard it probably a hundred times.. there is no way that stopping trying will help... ahh people drive me insane!

    But, I usually just try to ignore it.. I know that they don't know what they are talking about, so whatever

    thanks ladies nice to feel the love. Normally when I get the relax comment I say did sitting back and relaxing help maintain your marriage? save up for your dream home? or plan your retirement? NOPE

    You plan and work for these things why wouldnt I with this? And how can I not think about it...again ppl dream of Mr Right, Homes, Jobs etc...I am much more it doesnt come to you have to make it happen type person.
