Sleeping on stomach?

Our LO HATES sleeping on his back. Every time we put him down he wails with the fury of a thousand suns. If we place him on his stomach he will sleep for hours.

I know that all the research says to put babies on their backs to sleep, but if that means he is not sleep, and his parents are certainly not sleeping are we really getting anywhere? Has anyone else been through this? What were your solutions?

TIA!

Re: Sleeping on stomach?

  • Yes my LO was like that.  The swaddling worked for us.  Have you tried that?

  • Yes, swaddling has been tried. Swaddling is tough for us b/c our guy likes to have his hands free. He doesn't mind sitting up, like in his bouncer seat--he can sleep there all day if allowed. It's just flat on his back.

  • If he is willing to sleep in his swing or bouncer, then I would just let him sleep there for now.

  • my LO fought the blanket til his hands where out too. lol.  I also got the side positioner.  I had to get him use to not sleeping on his stomach because at daycares they'll lay him on his back.
  • I would let him sleep in his bouncer then.  Better than on his stomach.

  • You could get a positioner that is on an incline.  We have one because DS doesn't like to lay flat either.

  • We let our DD sleep on her stomach. She's a month and a few days.  We all sleep better.
  • do you have her sleep in a bassinet or in your bed? I am considering having my baby sleep on her stomach. have you heard any recent success stories about sleeping on stomach.
