Trying to Get Pregnant

Clicky Poll: Weight

I know being overweight can hinder your TTC efforts.  Over the weekend, DH was calling to offer condolences to a friend we talk to maybe twice a year as her grandfather had died.  She felt it was necessary to tell him that if I lost 20 pounds, we would get pregnant.  So, I was just wondering....

Re: Clicky Poll: Weight

  • How much you weigh- determining if youre overweight definitely also depends on your height with you weight. I weigh about 150, but Im also 5'8.

  • Sheesh, chalk up her insensitivity to her being emotional about her loss.
  • DH's cousin's wife told me if I gained weight I would get pg.  You hear it on both ends.

  • I weigh between 155-160. I only wear a 6-8.

I'm short(5'2") and pretty muscular, which maked all the difference in the world.

I find that to be incredibly insensitive!   I'm sorry.   :(

For some of us, losing weight is really hard, and for someone to be so flippant about it is irritating.   I lost 35 lbs but it took me 5 years to do it - and I've since gained back 10.  I'm not heavy - I'm about 135 right now, but it's really sad seeing the scale go up when I practically killed myself getting to that point!

  • I'm 5'9 and around 165lbs, so not small by any means. I am trying to lose some weight right now but I have a swimmers build with big shoulders. My RE has never mentioned my weight to me as being an issue.

I have read that if you are significantly overweight it can interfere with TTC but you might want to figure out your BMI instead of going by weight only.

  • Couldn't there just be a under weight, average weight, over weight and obese weight choice.... I feel so fat when I had to choose an actual number.

ETA: Please believe I will not be putting a weight up like the rest of the ladies did. Stick out tongue I'm 5'7"

  • Sorry, Blue!!  I did, too!  That's why I didn't answer it right away!  Haha!!

And yes, it was exceptionally rude and insensitive of her.  But, that's how she is - very blatant.  And the way DH repeated it to me was like I could just step right out of 20 pounds.  I totally get it couldn't HURT anything to lose some weight and if I'm not getting KU, it's something we should definitely consider.  However, it's right smack in the middle of the holidays and I know at this point, my attemps would be futile.

This.  I am 5' 2 1/2" and weigh about 115-118.  My father of all people always tells me that I should at least weigh 120 and being small could keep me from getting pregnant.  Geez.

Nevermind the fact that my maternal grandmother (who has my identical body type) got pregnant four times and only weighed 120 when she was 9 months pregnant.

  • That is freaking rude!  However, if you are overweight, losing 10-15% of your body weight can improve your ovulatory function.  I plan on trying to lose some weight after the holidays if I don't get pregnant this month.  If someone said this to me I would be seriously PO'd, though.

  • That is incredible rude...I just want to be a AW...before my weight loss I would have been in a higher catagory...not anymore baby...I am 5'9" and 150 right now...7.5 to go!!
