Gift/toy recommendations for 12-18 months

I'm trying to put together some items for Aaron's birthday list.  What toys/wagons or cars/etc. would you recommend?  Thanks!

  • My 15- month old nephew is TOTALLY into Little People right now.  https://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=10&e=littlepeople

  • Are you looking for big things (ride on/push toys) or toys for floor play?

For DS' first birthday, DH insisted we get him the step2 push car.  I think DH really loved seeing other dad's and kids with them in our hood, but I'm not sure I'd buy it again.  We don't have a lot of outside space for pushing around a car and it doesn't get tons of use.  We sometimes use it in place of a stroller but that isn't a great solution either -- the trunk doesn't hold much and there are no cup holders. ;)

For floor play he got a collection of little people vehicles (a plane, a bus, a train, and a few others) and some small cars.  He likes them but doesn't love them.  They get occassional use.

HIs favorite things are a toy vacuum, and books.  Balls and balloons are also on the everyday play list.

    What does your DS like?

  • The music table is huge...A water table for outside is great also. And just in general I think anything that is musical is fjun...like tamborine etc..

I'm looking for both right now - big items and small ones.  I saw the step 2 push car and thought it was cute, but I wanted to hear some real life experience with it before investing in it.

  • Big hits at Natalie's birthday were, the water table, and push toys.  She also got a kitchen that she LOVES, but I think at 12 months she was a little young for it, now she adores it.
  • Riley loves his little people so we asked for the plane of that and a few more. He also love music, there is a wooden drum that isn't annoying, my MIL bought him it.
  • I forgot the water table!  DS loves water above all else and we didn't get him one for his birthday.  It was a big failure on our parts to see who he really is and what he likes (not what we'd like for him to use).  So a few weeks later, my mom got him one and he insisted on using it every day several times a day until we put it away for the season.  I'm sure if it was out, he'd still whine and point to use it every day.  And since it is a stationary toy, it worked perfectly for a small space on our deck.

  • J's absolute favorite things are balls.  Small, medium, large, heavy, light - he loves them all :)  After that it's things that go in places, like screws and holely boards, sorting boards, ring tower, etc.  Beat-up-able books.  Cars/trucks/trains.  He is *just* starting to imagine and I'm going to intro some imagining toys for Christmas; the kitchen and mini me doll.  He's 16 months now.

  • Charlotte loves balls and Little People too.  She also likes stacking blocks (well really knocking them down), stacking rings and her Melissa and Doug big knob puzzle.  She LOVES books.  She has a little push lion that can ride too.  And a Leap Frog Learn & Groove Table.  And finally a Sesame Street pop-up toy.  Those are her toys currently in rotation.
  • G plays with this at another baby's house and LOVES it.  I just picked it up for christmas.
  • We got the cozy coupe car thing for her 1st birthday (actually grandparents did) and she loves, loves, loves it. It's something that will last her several years. We take it to get the mail almost every day.

Also the PBK chair I think can be a good investment.

Other than that, push toys are great, too. We got S one of those totally retro popcorn push things for Christmas. It just arrived today and someone was standing right there when I opened the box so she got to try it out - she loved it. I think it was $12 and it will be pure entertainment.
