NT Scan this morning - Sad News

We had the Ultrasound today and unfortunately it didn't go well. The baby had fluid around it and around organs. It is a condition called Cystic Hygroma. My case is severe. We opted to have the CVS done today because of it. They actually go in with a needle and extract part of the placenta. They can then do testing to see if it is due to a chromosomal defect. If it is, then we can decide where to go from there. We had always said if our baby had Down's we would keep it, however, this is looking like it might be something more severe. After we get the results we need to make a decision. The doctor said baby's with this condition generally don't make it full term, or they die within hours of birth. We could wait for a natural miscarriage or have it removed. Randy and I talked and if it comes to that, we would not wait for it to naturally miscarry, but would medically end it because the miscarriage could take months, and the longer you have to wait for that to happen, the harder it would be on my body and soul. I am crying while typing this. It just isn't fair.

We don't know the whole story yet, but it just doesn't look promising. Please keep us in your prayers.

Not sure that this will help but my cousin's son had one, though it wasn't considered severe at any point. He was born with Noonan's Syndrome. He's three now and although he has issues, he is a vibrant, sweet young child. Mentally he is fine, though developing slower than other children his age, and he is physically smaller with the very typical Noonan characteristics.

I guess what I am saying is wait for the results to make decisions because there are cases where this is a result of another syndrome. Hopefully that is your case, though if you are like me you live by the adage, "Pray for the best but prepare for the worst"... my thoughts and prayers are with you.
