Mine wants me to pay $100 now - well they said I could pay it in 4 installments.
I asked the billing department why and they said because a lot people don't pay their hospital bill after delivery.
I think it's a stupid policy but they said they don't make any exceptions.'
The lady in billing said the insurance companies recommend it. I just wanted to see if this was common practice.
Re: Does your OB office require prepayment of your delivery co-insurance?
This is what I was thinking too. I haven't gone to my first appt but I am curious now. I hope they don't do that.

I guess it would depend on your insurance. I have my $400 deductible to meet, plus 10%. they can't know they exact total of what that will add up to right now. What if it ended up being a c-section? That would cost a heck of a lot more than a vaginal delivery so there is no way to know what it would be now.
I can kind of see it if you just had a flat $100 copay for everything. I would prefer to pay ahead of time just so I don't have to worry about it later.
I have a deductible plus 10% too. They just take the minimum amount it could be (10% of a $1000 which is the the doctor fee for a basic delivery ) and ask me to pay that.
This...
I asked my OB's office quickly when I was there for a u/s last week and they said that they don't even bill out until after delivery!! I'm trying to figure out my FSA for next year and her answer did NOT help me one bit! Has anyone had this been the case for their OB's office? I want to make sure I put it on my FSA card..but obviously if I don't know how much they're going to charge I can't figure it out!
Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless
My old OB's office had it to where you paid after the birth.
My new one has it that you have to pay now. The total cost of everything will be 2500 and I have to pay 250.00 which isn't that bad but I am doing it in a payment plan just in case something was to happen.
Mine did with DS and I assume they will with this one as well. I thought it was good to get one out of the way, since I was getting medical bills from the delivery and jaundice hopital stays for 6 months after.
ETA: I actualyl got a check back from my OB after delivery because it ended up being less than they had estimated. Not sure if it was because I delivered 3 weeks early and didn't have as many office visits as they had planned or what?
