I am sure some of you have furbabies what has been others response to your having a baby and the pets? We have two cats and two dogs and its like ppl keep asking us if we are getting rid of our pets now that we are having a baby? Why would we? I dont get why people think that having pets are an issue with children? Its starting to annoy me a bit am I the only one who hears stuff like this?
Re: Pets
Why would anyone give up their pets because a baby was coming?!?! I mean, unless you knew for a fact that the animal was aggressive toward the baby.
That's crazy-talk. I'd NEVER give up my dog!!

I don't understand why people think it's impossible to keep pets after having a baby. I thought we would have at least some kind of "adjustment" period with our dog and baby, sure, but we didn't even have that.
DD loves our dog more than she probably loves me, I could never imagine getting rid of him, and I'm glad I would never have listened to such stupid advice. People are weird.
O I have heard the cats will suffocate my baby about a billion times now!
I have a cat. I definitely dont have any plans to "get rid of him". What is wrong with people?
Granted, when the baby comes if there are any issues we'll try to work through them. God forbid there are any major issues (like aggression) that we are not able to work though then I would have to consider finding him a new home. But right now, no way.
We have a pitbull mix, Mya, who is the sweetest girl in the world. She has been through tons of training and is even an AKC Canine Good Citizen! Before we got BFP people thought we were crazy for having her - I can only imagine what people are going to say when they find out we are expecting. Obviously if she ever displayed any aggression towards us, any other people or the baby we would have to find her a new home. However, she has lived with cats, a 3lb morkie and been around tons of other pets, people, children and babies and has been fine.
People should mind their own business!

One snarky way to respond is to say any of the following, "No, my pets are well-behaved/well-trained/loved so I won't be getting rid of them."
I haven't had anyone ask us about that - they know too well how much we love our dogs and cats!!! I can't wait to see how the pets and baby interact actually.
FWIW, I have 2 dogs and DS loves them. Every dog is called "Bu bu" (Malibu's nickname) and he loves to play with them. He throws their balls, pets them, and he even loves to FEED them by scooping out their dog food while I hold the bowl.
Dogs are members of my family and we have prepared them by exposing them to kids, training them, and preparing them for the baby. My inlaws questioned DH before DS was born. I told him that they were lucky that they hadn't asked me or I would have given them a piece of my mind. DH told them to NEVER bring it up again--and they haven't--thank goodness.
We got our first "getting rid of the dogs" comment this weekend but it didn't surprise me coming from BF's uncle who discriminates against our pittie because of her breed alone. Any dog can be a danger to a child. Breed has nothing to do with it.
