1st Trimester

s/o registering/gifts

DH & I don't want baby stuff for Christmas!  I want stuff for ME!  People have been asking us what we want in a way that implies baby stuff.  Is there a way to say, "Hey, Christmas is going to belong to the kid for the next 20 freakin' years after it's born...can't this one still be about us???" without sounding like a brat?  Also, I'll barely be out of my 1st tri then...doesn't that seem early to get baby stuff?

Re: s/o registering/gifts

  • tell them you're not getting baby things yet because you don't know the sex of the baby, and you don't want an abundance of gender neutral things. :)

  • I feel you.  I wasn't pg (well I was but didn't know yet) with DS during x-mas, but this year everyone already knows I'm pg so I hope I don't get a bunch of baby stuff.  Baby's first x-mas will be next year and so I would rather next year be special for her/him.  This year doesn't count.
  • Same here!  This is the first grandchild on DH's side, and I'm the first girl on my side to be pg (boy cousin has two small children), so everyone is going nuts!

We still make christmas lists, so I'm planning on making sure that my list doesn't include anything baby-oriented, or even anything pg-oriented!  Thankfully on one side we all draw names and you put on your name a couple of things you want, so that will help.

  • Yes, as I mentioned before, I do think it's kinda strange that people want to get an unborn baby stuff for Christmas. They can get you all they want for the shower. I get the excitement and all, and although I think it would be cute to get a baby a little book or something as a "gesture," I really don't understand people going crazy buying things. YOU probably don't even know what you need for a baby yet, so it just seems weird to be making a "Christmas List" for a person who won't even be here for quite awhile.
  • We keep telling our parents that we don't want anything for the baby for Christmas - I'll be 13 weeks right at Christmas so it's way too early to get anything. I've just been asking for Old Navy/Gap gift cards so I can save them and buy maternity clothes when it's time.

  • I disagree.  Get me the baby bumper or quilt.  Buy me fun things for the baby.  I don't need anything but this baby sure will.

I bought my sister maternity clothes when she was pregnant last Christmas.

Remember if you are asking for jewelry, once the baby can grab, most of it will get put on the shelf.  I found a necklace my sister would love but her kid would break it within 5 seconds.

  • There are wish lists.  Pregnancy books, Snoogle (love my snoogle), Belly Bar (Baby needs Chocolate), Lotion (I like Mustela Ultimate Hydration Lotion) gift cards for BRU, Target, etc for later on.  Of course, I am asking for specific things from Motherhoodhood Maternity like maternity pajamas and a coat.

This. Babies are expensive! I have enough stuff for me so by all means buy for the upcoming bundle of joy.
