Can you recommend yours? Right now we're looking at the Summer infant complete video monitoring system. Which do you have? Pros and cons? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Glad you asked this, Cali. Our friends are split down the middle on recommending the Angel Care and a video monitor so we're starting our own research, too.

I looove the video monitor. I don't know how I survived Truitt's infancy without one. Love it!!
As far as the Angel Care, I have some friends who love theirs but they admit there are a lot of false alarms once the baby really starts moving in the crib. Also, if there is a sitter or someone who is not used to the system and they pick the baby up, the alarm goes off and scares everyone. lol. But really, the fact that you have to turn it on and off everytime you pick the baby up kind of seemed like a PITA to me and we opted to get a Respisense Buzz instead. I felt secure even with mathis sleeping on his stomach. plus, it's portable so you can use it in the bassinett or swing or car seat or wherever in those 1st months when sleep can be anywhere or everywhere.

I love that Respisense! Do you have any problems with it coming off?
Also, which video monitor do you have that you love? Any issues with it? I've read about static and interference on a few of them. We have TechSheild that affects our cell phones and wireless so I'm wondering if it will affect the video monitors as well.
it did come off a few times- mostly when he was starting to wiggle a lot and his movement would push it off the diaper. we remedied this by having him sleep in onsies and knit pants under his swaddle. the pants had a thicker waist band than a diaper so that helped. a couple great things about the respisense: the alarm starts out soft and gets louder. so if it slips off, you an often get to it before it wakes the baby up. the other thing i really loved was the "buzz" feature, which vibrates the monitor. basically, one theory about sids is the baby falls so deep asleep they forgte to breathe. the idea of the buzz is to vibrate and kind of jostle them back in to breathing.
we have the summer hand held night/day monitor. it's weird b/c we left the charger in the hotel in canada and can't buy a spare, so we had to buy another monitor. the 1st one was great- no issues with static or anything. the 2nd one does have some static issues. it is not constant but annoying when its happening. .
We have the Summer video monitor, not the hand held one though. We love it and have had no problems except for occasional static. Typically it's been some of the electronics in our living room causing the interference and we haven't had any issues with our Techshield causing a problem. We started out using a regular non video monitor for the first few months, but just weren't getting the peace of mind we wanted/needed, especially given that DS was a very wiggly, restless sleeper as an infant. The video monitor has been great for us and we still use it nightly at almost 2.5 years old.
we have the 2 cheapest standard monitors that we could buy. One is a Graco that's about $20. It has 2 receivers. They work great and we never had any static. The other is a Sony. It's wireless and was about $30. It's fine, but gets more static than the super cheap one. However, it's nice to be able to take it into the bathroom or outside with me. We use them both every single day. I never wanted the video thing. I was afraid that I would end up staring at it instead of sleeping. We did keep Luca in our room until 3 months and I slept in Lila's room for 9 weeks. After that I felt good that they could roll over and they were both STTN by that point in time.
We have both! We use the Angel care as our "sound monitor" and then we have a Summer Video monitor (not the hand held), it get's a lot of sound static/interference so we just lower the sound until we can't hear it on the video monitor.
Now my rant...we've had the Summer monitor in use for 16 months now and my on and off button on the monitor is having issues. I've tried contacting Summer via email but have had no response yet (I'm hoping it's just because of the Thanksgiving holiday), I may have to try calling them this week to see if they give me a solution other than "buy a new one" since it's only warrantied for 12 months.
Otherwise, I LOVE having a video monitor, Mason would not be in his own room with out it! lol
I love the Angel Care Monitor because the sound is only on when there is something going on in the room (loud noise, crying, coughing, etc) and it gives me a little bit of peace of mind that if ds would stop breathing we could go in there quickly. Yes there have been false alarms on occasion but if I didn't have that monitor, I'd get no sleep because I'd watch the monitor all night making sure he was breathing!
ETA: I don't know what happen to the quote! I was trying to quote the reply about the Angel Care or Video Monitor...oh well
I want a video one so badly, but I'm too cheap and won't buy one for baby #2. We one similar to this (but no vibration) and we've never had issues with interference or anything weird. I want the video monitor to check on the little one visually, but I don't know that they're worth $200+.

K - I just got this one for baby #2, if you are interested in one and want a better deal. It dropped below $100 late last week, but under $110 is a good price on it. We are still using one like yours for DS#1, since we can't hear him from our room.
I highly recommend the hanheld Summer infant video monitor, especially if you plan to have them out of your room at a young age. There are so many times they make weird noises, etc. and if I couldn't see what was going on I'd probably think I needed to go check in the room...when really they are just fine. It is by far worth the expense for the peace of mind you get! You can get good deals online.
