2nd Trimester

Anterior Placenta - who else?

We had the big U/S today (not finding out sex) and were told that I have an anterior placenta.  I'm 18 weeks today with my 2nd child and that explains why I haven't felt any movement yet.

When did you start feeling movement if you have an anterior placenta?  I think I read it can move around throughout the course of the pregnancy and may not always be anterior.

Re: Anterior Placenta - who else?

  • I was told I had one, but I was feeling movement before 18wks. The tech thinks it could be on the side.

  • I'm not sure, but I have an anterior placenta too..not near the cervix so that's good. They told me it won't be for another few weeks before I feel movement because there is extra padding. BTW...So exciting today!!! Good for you that you could wait. Our baby wanted to show us right away that he is a boy!

  • I do and I felt LO move regularly starting around 20 weeks
  • ::raises hand::

I have one, and I haven't felt movement yet.  This is my first, so I'm also not sure what movement feels like really, so if it was "flutters" I'm not sure I won't miss it anyways...

I also have placenta previa - my placenta is being all kinds of difficult!

  • I have an anterior placenta but with marginal previa, so I've been feeling the baby for a couple weeks now.

  • I have a complete anterior placenta, covering the entire front of my belly. I think I'm finally starting to feel some movement, but it's not kicks, flutters, etc. More like moving pressure...I figure the baby's shifting positions or rolling over. I'm hoping that I'll start feeling more soon because it's driving me nuts not having the regular reassurance that baby's alive and well.
  • I am feeling slight movements and have been for about 2 weeks but I also have an anterior placenta and was told it may be awhile before I start feeling him more!
  • I have anterior placenta, doesn't seem to be moving at all (the placenta).  It took me a while to feel her moving at all.  I probably started feeling her reguarly at 24-25 wks.  They had me in for monitoring around wk 24 because I wasn't feeling her, but she was was fine with a strong h/b.  They told me if I'm not feeling her regularly by 28wk, they would be more concerned.
  • I have an anterior placenta as well.  I didn't feel movement until 23 weeks.  It became really consistent at 24 weeks.

I asked the u/s tech at my last appt about the placenta moving around and becoming un-anterior (totally not a word...make that work for you) but she said that's not possible.  It will migrate upwards the bigger the baby gets, but it will always be anterior.

  • I felt on and off flutters about 17-18 weeks but it was so inconsistant.  Then around 22 weeks I was able to really feel movement and felt it from the outside.
  • I do - I started feeling the "pops" around 16-17 weeks. Now I feel rolls and jabs! Guess she is a strong one to get through the placenta! I do feel it more on my left side though - so I guess the placenta is positioned more on the right.

  • I have one too....although it moves as your uterus grows.  I've felt flutters on and off since about 15 weeks - but not every day.

  • I've been feeling kicks, etc. since around 19 weeks -- but I have to say, I feel a lot less than with my first pregnancy, when my placenta wasn't anterior. The LO is getting way active right now, at 23 weeks.

The whole anterior placenta thing is kind of bumming me out a bit, though, b/c DH isn't able to feel nearly as much as he could with DD#1.

  • I have one and I can feel little taps and flutters.
  • I have a complete anterior.  I started feeling movement at 23 weeks.
  • I have an anterior placenta. I felt movement at 16weeks 5 days, but didn't realize thats what it was until 19 weeks. I'm just now starting to feel daily movement. Last night I actually saw my belly move during her kicking.

Same here, but not exactly regular.

  • I finally felt him today for the first time. It was just flutters for a minute or so. Very exciting! I can't wait to feel more.
  • i have one too. i just started feeling kicks this weekend at about 21 weeks.
  • I have one, and just started feeling big movements this last week.  Prior to that I was feeling little flutters here and there since 15 weeks but nothing big.  Now I've started feeling the rolls and kicks.
  • I have one too, and I'm pregnant with my second child.  I really didn't start feeling regular movement until 22 weeks or so, maybe a bit later.
