I never ever would have considered co-sleeping with DS when I was pregnant and now it's one of those things I can check off my list of things I told myself I wouldn't do but now I have (like FF because I'm too tired to nurse and watching tv while nursing). The thing is, I'm super cautous when I'm sleeping with William and have become an ultra-light sleeper due to this lol. If I could somehow manage to get him to sleep in his crib, I wouldn't do it every night like I have been... Any tips on how to get him to sleep in his crib or tips to make my bed safer for DS? Thanks!
Re: How did I start co-sleeping?
I can't help on the crib sleeping because I'm still co-sleeping. I was totally in your position. During pregnancy, we bought a fancy "safe" crib because I was all about getting a good crib and not going to co-sleep. Psh! Shows what I knew.
DS would only sleep on me when he was 2 weeks old so it was either sleep with him or don't sleep at all. My baby just wanted to be close to us. So we quickly made our bed baby-friendly.
Some tips: Make sure your sheets are snug and there aren't excess pillows around. Keep sheets and blankets down low. Just dress yourself warmer to not use sheets. Some moms put their beds on the floor to avoid baby rolling out. But at 2 weeks yours isn't rolling so there's no fear there.
The books say to put you between your DH and baby. But I think it depends on how light of a sleeper your DH is. My DH is a very light sleeper so DS is between the two of us.
Also, if you have a pillow top mattress, it's best not to co-sleep. We actually had a pillow top and bought a new bed (also in a king size) with a firm mattress. We were overdue for a new bed anyway.
There are some good books out there on co-sleeping. James McKenna has a great book that called something like "the joys of sleeping with your baby" that is a good resource.

I just read this and am too scared to co-sleep. We do np that way sometimes but not at night. I too am a light sleeper and always feel aware of where he is, but I dont want to be one of the tragedies.
My LO sleeps well in his crib while laying on his side with a rolled up receiving blanket behind his back. I nurse him to sleep then lay him with a paci. I also keep a fan on for background noise.
We got one of these and it wont fit between me and DH! We are falling off the bed. But we do have a full be, so maybe it would fit in a king or queen
