Fibroid

I am currently 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I went in for my first u/s today. Everything went well. I had a chance to hear the baby's heartbeat, and see the LO. The only thing that I'm worried about is that fact that a fibroid was also spotted. My doctor said it was nothing to worry about, but I am still worried. Does anyone else have a fibroid? I just wanted to know a little bit more about it.

Re: Fibroid

  • I'm pretty sure there is a cyst of some type on my ovary, though I won't know until I go over my u/s results with my doctor.  I've had a dermoid cyst before and it was painful, but not harmful.  I had it removed.  I'm sure a fibroid is similar and is nothing to be concerned about, especially if your doctor isn't worried.

  • Fibroids are nothing to be concerned about. They may make your periods a little longer or heavier but as far as pregnancy goes I don't think you should be concerned.
  • Thanks. Those comments make me feel a lot better.

  • At my 6w3d u/s, the tech and my OB spotted a 1/2 inch fibroid and told me it was nothing to worry about because it was so small. I had no idea it was there beforehand-- I never had any symptoms (longer, heavier periods with more pain). I'm going along with the theory that if my OB isn't worried then I'm not worried. GL!

  • I had a lot of fibroids removed in April.  The doctor said they will only be a problem if they are intruding on the lining and preventing implantation.  At this point, you are past the point of it causing a problem with implantation.  They usually don't cause problems during pregnancy.
