Actual conversation between 2 older (50s-ish) white people at Home Depot:
Woman: The colored ones are so ghetto. White is classy.
Man: (laughing) Really?!
If I didn't know they were talking about Christmas lights, I'd have been appalled. But then again, I prefer coloured lights, again reiterating my ghetto-status, I guess. Sigh.
What do YOU like/put on your house? Why one and not the other?

When I was a kid, my dad put up multi-colored lights every year. He was such a perfectionist that there was never a bulb out or a strand loose or a window, eave, or porch post unadorned. I always thought our house looked like a gingerbread house. I loved it!
When I was in high school, my dad built a ramp from the front deck to the sidewalk so my great-grandmother could get into the house more easily in her wheel chair. He, of course, lined the ramp with lights. It looked like a candy colored runway!
Needless to say, I prefer the multi-colored lights to the single color or all-white lights.
Just wanted to say that you crack me up! When I first started reading I was wondering where this poll was going....
And I love the siggy pic - adorable!
I'm an all white kinda gal. I like the way they twinkle.
semi-related, jon's family uses the huge multicolored outdoor lights on their indoor tree.
We tend to use 2 colors. This year, it's red and white to create our overall candy cane theme. The house lights will be wrapped since our roofline has this weird board in front of it, with alternating 2 to 1 white and red stands.
I like the look of all white and I do think it looks kind of fancy. DD gets much more excited about color, though, so we are leaning in the same direction. Last year, we were blue and white.
WTF? That would hurt my eyes.

personally, i think it's a fire hazard and i use it as my excuse not to sleep there.
I change it up all the time, so sometimes color, sometimes white.
Last year, I mixed some colored LED lights with regular white garland lights to bring down the harshness of the LEDs. I really wish LEDs could look more like the regular ones

Other. We are ghetto-tastic this year.
*White icicles going straight across the house b/c my DH didn't want to get on the roof and do the eaves. OH, but I don't think they even span the whole house. Nice.
*Those huge multi-colored ceramic bulbs lining the driveway. Well, one side of the driveway. And half of the sidewalk in front of the house. Thinking of getting some more so they can at least line the whole sidewalk.
*And I figure I might as well add to the poorly-done mix and am planning on using the regular small multi-colored bulbs to go around the small oak tree in our front yard. When I get to it.
All is *very* Klassy. You should all come out and see.
ETA: I am not really a fan of my DH's half-@ssed and random lights, but I decided to just embrace the tackiness and go with it. It helps that the girls LOVE it all. So we at least have pre-schooler and toddler approval.

Oh the joys of joining American and non American traditions.
I like multi coloured lights everywhere! Hubby thinks it's tacky.
So we have had white lights on the house in the past (need to find somewhere that won't charge me almost 1k$ to put them up). Hubby isn't a fan of being up that high, so last year nothing (plus we were out of town).
I get multi-coloured-singing lights on the tree. It doesn't always sing, but it'll blink in time to the music you don't hear!
So anyway, white on the house, and I'm angling to get 'tacky' yard stuff!

I love your polls Joyco! They crack me up.
We put multi-colored lights on our house - and have every year that DH and I have been together. DH actually likes to put up white icicle lights with the colored lights and I think its WAY too much so we didn't this year. Every year growing up we always had multi-colored lights - so....I guess that makes me ghetto and I'm proud of it!
Multi-colored lights everywhere. This is out first Christmas in a house, and DH has been channeling Chevy Chase. The entire outside of the house is covered in lights, all the eves and corners and angles. And the bushes. And there's little green light-up trees around the porch. And we put ornaments on our front yard tree.
This.
The Blog
We use the white lights on our house per DH but I like any kind of lights. My Dad used to put the big multi-coloured up on our house growing up so I love any variation.

White inside, white outside. Although, I think if done correctly multi colored lights outside can be pretty.
Wait ... does my vote count? I have NO lights this year! Hehe My husband is very upset by our lack of Christmas tree ... so I bought and hung a Christmas hand towel on the oven in the kitchen. It has a silver tree on it
I voted white, but we have the white LEDs which look kinda blue. I love them!
This year we have red and white icicles along the top and eaves (one strand of lights with both colors on it). On the downstairs we have red C9s with white icicles under them. We have wreaths with all white lights and red bows on every window.
We alternate between a red/white combination and a blue/white combination on the outside.
We have all white small bulbs inside.
I like all lights. Something is better than nothing!
I like it all! We decorate big time - everything. We always do the roofline of the house the same - big multi-colored bulbs with white icicles hanging down, multi-colored wreaths and a couple of bears "skiing" down the A-frame roof over the garage. The yard, we change it up a bit every year, but it's always a mix of white and multi-colored lights. We're "those" people that do crazy things like build light tunnels over the driveway, etc. We always win one of the top prizes in our neighborhood!
I do think that all white does look classy, but I guess we just aren't that classy. Not having some color in there would make me sad.
