Wow, that's a really determined to gal to get all up in there like that. I remember when I got my one and only internal exam from my doc and saying to him, "I feel like a muppet!".
I didn't read many of the responses, but.... 1. i don't see how sticking a wiener in there is legit, but one's own (washed) fingers will -- according to these ladies -- cause horrible, pregnancy-threatening infections. 2. (tmi) i can feel my own cervix just fine. it's not that far up there, and i use a menstrual cup and nuvaring, so i'm used to sticking things in there. every lady's bits are built a little different. 3. rough spots? that's what needs to be addressed!

I don't think it'd be comfortable, but everyone needs to chill the heck out with the danger! and the shock that there might be fingers (or other things) in there.

You can introduce infection, but usually only after the bag of waters breaks. The WTH part comes from trying to feel for dilation in your 2nd tri. Stimulation of the cervix is a big no-no until your 3rd tri because it can cause preterm labor.

what i don't get is that she was 'cleaning out' - wtf? what the hell is in there that needs cleaning out?

I wondered that, too... but i think she was cleaning the labia and checking stuff out inside... i hope. i can't imagine scrubbing things down in there!
Really, you can induce labor by touching your cervix? What if you have a short vagina and you have sex? Wouldn't that have the same effect?

Having sex is one of the "ways" of inducing labor. Or so "they" say. None of the so-called labor inducing tricks worked on me. My water broke, and then my body was done with labor. I had to be induced, after two days, for failure to progress.
I also wondered about her cleaning herself. Damn dirty dirty vagina. Never once crossed my mind to "clean out" the pipes. But whatever. Just a very odd thread.

probably not at 26 weeks, but yeah, later it can. HOnestly I think part of why I went so early with Ben was that they checked my cervix in L&D the weekend before. I had bloody mucous and contractions on and off for that next week. It got better the day my water broke though, so I thought I was cool. Until my water broke of course.
So anyway, if I were ever to get pregnant again (which I won't), I would refuse any cervix checks til 37 weeks.

This, also. But, lol, who is cleaning up there anyway? Thats not a part of required normal hygeine, nor should it be!
