Trying to Get Pregnant

one more try... and ?

My temp nose dived this am, so AF will be arriving today or tomorrow. Boo.

When I had my annual exam in October my doctor said to call her if I wasn't KU after the holidays.  We started "trying" in July, I started charting in September and both DH and I are over 35.

So if I don't get KU in December I plan to call the day I get AF.  I guess I am going to say the doctor told me to call but then what?  I don't know what to say after that.  Or what to expect - are they just going to give me the next available appoinment, which could be a month away?  Is she going to want to see just me; or see me and DH or send us to a RE?  She didn't say what was next - just to call the office.

At the time I had convinced myself that in the next 3 cycles I would probably get KU, but since I haven't and there is only one left I wish I would have asked more questions.  I don't want to waste a cycle with just going in to have an appointment to "talk".

Any experienced ladies have any suggestions or insight? TIA

  • I'm interested in the answer to this question, too.  Very similar situation:  if we aren't KU by February, we need to call the doc.

  • My guess is they will refer you on to an RE and that is probably the best idea.  If they try to throw you on Clomid without any testing or anything....run.  Unluckily you may end up "wasting" a cycle no matter what you do because all initial testing has to be done in the beginning and you probably won't have time to schedule it all after AF shows.

    TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
    Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

I guess I was just hoping that when I called she would schedule some tests or something.  Not just have me come in to talk about possibly scheduling some tests.

Follow up question - would she recommend a SA for DH or does he need to go to his doctor for that?

It would not hurt to ask his Dr for info about it.

Sorry that you have to make this call Sad

I'd love to know the answer as well.  I'm in a similar situation.  It takes sooo long to get regular appointments with my doctor.  If you wouldn't mind sharing how the phone call goes - I would be interested to hear.

    Best of luck!

  • I agree with L&R - they will probably refer you to an RE and if they don't, I would request a referral or just call one on my own if your insurance doesn't require one..  I go to RHS in Monroeville and they are wonderful.  I got an appointment less than 3 weeks after I called.  You could always call now and request an appointment in January so you don't have to wait.  You can always cancel if you need to.

You should expect b/w for you and possibly YH, an u/s, an SA for YH (the RE can order one, he doesn't need to go to his PCP), and an HSG for you.  I think I covered it all.

And like L&R said, run if they throw Clomid at you.  Without testing there's no way to know if it would even work ie: if you have a blocked tube or something.

    Good luck!!

  • Thanks Gym.  My DH has an appointment at his PCP tomorrow because of the "performance issues" he was having earlier in the month.  Although the problem went away and we now think it was related to his having a bad cold, he decided to keep the appointment.

Should he bring up that we are TTC and calling my obgyn after next month?  I don't want to start something with his dr. if we end up going to a RE, but he already has the appointment.

  • I add my thanks, too, Gym.  OP, you've inspired me to get the ball rolling sooner instead of waiting until February-- so thanks for helping me get my butt in gear.
