Trying to Get Pregnant

low morphology

Anyone else with a DH with low morphology?  DH's sperm count and motility are good, but the RE is concerned about his morphology.  He has to go see a specialist, and I'm not sure what the doctor will be doing about it.  Are there ways to improve it?

I'm about ready to cry, I guess we both have problems (me with PCOS and thyroid issues).  It seems like our chances are getting smaller and smaller.

  • I don't know anything about SA analysis (sorry!), but I just wanted to send a virtual hug... sounds like you need it.  Hopefully there will be something they can do about it..

  • Mine has low morph.  What was YH's percentage?  I've had 3 doctors now tell me that morph is the most subjective thing about an SA and what one might consider low is not considered low by 5 others.  I've also been told that they aren't even really sure if morph has a huge affect on getting pregnant - this came from the top urologist in Pittsburgh.

Under the strict morph scale, anything over 4% is generally considered fine.

Try not to worry unnecessarily.  If it comes to it (which it may not) IUI can overcome some morph issues.

  • My DH has low morph and motility.  The urologist has put him on some meds, but I have read that they dont make much difference.  He had his repeat done last week and I should have the results any day to see if they helped at all.  I dont know if there is much you can do about it.

DH's was 5%, they told me that they like to see 10-15%. I'm not too freaked out yet, I know that we just have to see what the doctor says and go from there.  We haven't even officially had a chance at conceiving yet, since I''m on CD 84 with no sign of ovulation (on prometrium now).  I was just hoping that we'd be able to rule DH out and just focus on my issues, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I've read some studies that say there is no statistically significant difference in the ability to get their partner pregnant in men with between 4% and 14% morph.  Yes, 10%-15% is what they look for as a general rule, but men with under 10%-15% but over 4% conceive at the same rate as those with 10%-15% or more.  Hope that made sense.

Good luck with everything!  Hope you ovulate soon!!
