Reflux babies on medication...

What is your LO taking? how much? how often?

DS is on .8 of Zantac twice a day, which is definitely better than not having it but he is still vomiting and in pain, we have another dr appt this week and I am looking for some options to discuss with her.

  • 1ml of Axid 2x daily... it works for the majority of feedings.

  • Afton is supposed to be on Zantac .7ml 2x daily, but it wasn't cutting it for her. I am a Registered Nurse and I looked up in my Davis's Drug Guide and for Zantac babies can have between 5-10mg/kg broken up into two doses. She wasn't getting enough for her weight to be beneficial for her, so I upped her dose to 1 ml 2x a day and noticed a HUGE difference. I would do the math and see if your LO is getting enough for his weight and ask your doctor if the dose can be upped.

  • My DD started out on zantac and it helped but really wasn't too much better.  We switched to prilosec and it has made a big difference in her.  I make sure that whenever symptoms return I call the pedi to get her dose adjusted to her weight as pp said.

  • We noticed zantac to be VERY weight sensitive. If it is not working, the dose may need to be adjusted.
  • DS is on zantac .7 every 8 hours and also was put on rice cereal for his bottles.  The rice helps thicken the formula so that he doesnt spit up as much and it helps coat the burning.
