My DW and I are very much in support of AP'ing. We try to respond to our LO's eevry need and anticipate her needs before she gets upset. Our struggle is in that she will not nap. At 7 weeks we are lucky if she takes 3, fifteen to thirty minute snoozes (only if being held or worn) from the time she wakes up at 7am and until she goes to bed usually around 7 at night. She sleeps well through the night, waking up every three hours or so to eat and then going back to sleep.
We don't mind following her cues with the napping but the problem is she is obviously exhausted at several times in the day and just seems to fight staying alseep. We are just not sure where to go from here...we are actually considering CIO when she gets older which we never thought we'd even consider at any age.
Re: Not Napping at 7 weeks
What are your methods for trying to get her to nap?
I totally hear you on the fighting-sleep-baby. DD does this every now and then and it's the worst. I've found that wearing her is the best way to get her to sleep, followed closely by the swing (although this takes longer than wearing).
Does your LO respond well to wearing? Seriously, two minutes in the moby with mine and she's out like a light.
I don't think DD slept well at that point. I can remember going back to work and DH staying home with her and him calling me sounding as though he was practically in tears (and he NEVER cries) saying "She just won't NAPPPPPP! I can't even take a piss!"
We did have success with the Moby wrap and skin to skin contact as well as the Boppy infant travel swing. Both were lifesavers. At 6-8 weeks she was meh about them but after that, she loved them and would sleep a long time with both.
Hang in there, things DO get easier!
