Hey girls, hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! After years of looking for someone to figure out why I was always having irregular periods I found a great obgyn whom I love. She dx me with PCOS and has me on Provera monthly. This past month was the mark of me and my dh trying for a year with no success and she started me on Metformin and wants to put me on Clomid. I asked her about the SA and HSG and she said she didn't think there is anything wrong with my tubes and she didn't see a need for me to have the HSG. I also asked about monitoring me while I was on the Clomid and she said she doesn't normally do any bw or u/s and that if I was having any pain then I would need to come in for an u/s. I really like her but also know her personality isn't going to get me ku or keep me healthy. What do y'all think? Should I start looking for a new Dr?
Re: I know the answer but I'm going to ask anyway
Why doesn't she think anything is wrong with your tubes? (I mean, hopefully there isn't, but what is she basing that decision off of?)
Personally I wouldn't want to get put on drugs that may not be able to help me due to another very easily diagnosable issue. When we do IUI next year with Clomid, I will be monitored and I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable taking it if I wasn't going to be monitored. (I STILL don't feel comfortable taking it even knowing that I WILL be closely watched!)
I know it's hard once you have a doctor that you like, but.......I'd just be nervous continuing with her if I was you.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

It took 44 cycles, just over 3 years, 6 failed IUI's in MI, and 1 round of IVF at CCRM to get our BFP!

i'm always wary of any doctor who would prescribe clomid and not monitor with bloodwork and u/s. those tests are the only way to know definitively how the drug is affecting your body and/or if it's even working in your system. yes it's prescribed a lot and yes it works for many people... but it's also a pretty heavy duty drug (fun fact! clomiphene citrate was originally marketed as a breast cancer drug) and any doctor who would just give it to you and send you on your way is not a doctor i'd trust with my uterus.
just my opinion, but i wouldn't be surprised if others agree. i hope you find someone great - you deserve intentional, well-thought-out care!
