2nd Trimester

I didn't know I was pregnant...

This show kills me.  Have any of you ever known anyone who didn't know they was pregnant?  I just find it hard to believe.  Not so much early on but when someone is in the third tri how do they not know?  Can anyone tell I'm bored tonight and DH isn't home?   Big Smile

Re: I didn't know I was pregnant...

  • I don't know. I really don't get it. I am in the same position as some of those girls. I am overweight and have PCOS so very irregular periods. I still would have known something was up long ago.
A small start at 2lb 9oz, 60 day NICU stay, and 6 months of O2 My 30 weeker is growing up! <a href="http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/bippy798/?action=view

  • I watched once and now that I am pregnant and I know how much my body has changed in so little time  I really find it hard to believe that you can go a whole pregnancy whithout knowing you are expecting.....
  • I think it's people who are in denial.  I KNEW I was pregnant within 10 days of conception.  I just don't see how someone can pay so little attention to her body.

Not sure what that has to do with it....

But the episodes I've seen were in the US.

  • I cannot stand this show yet I watch it anyway. I just dont get it! How could someone not know?? I'm only 24wks and my lo is somewhere around a pound, pound and half and there is no mistaking his kicks. How could you mistake a kick of a 7lb baby? Drives me crazy, it cant be 100% real.
  • My best friend didn't know she was until about 23 weeks.  She NEVER had regular periods, and was on birth control, had been seen by several doctors, taken multiple tests that came back negative, so it happens.

That's what I'm thinking.  What do they think it is gas?

Not noticing until you are half way through isn't the same as delivering a baby in your pant leg (I saw that on one of the episodes).

  • I don't get it either.  I would have high tailed it to a doctor by now, thinking something was wrong with my insides if I didn't know it was a little one kicking in there.

And yes, before anyone says it, I know not everyone can feel the LO kick or move.  But still...there are so many more signs that are hard to ignore...I would at the very least think something was not right with me and seek medical attention.

This. Once you get RLP and quickening, you'd know something was up. I'd at least go to the doctor and ask "Uhhhh...what's moving inside me?"LOL

  • I knew one person that I went to school with. His mom was going through menopause and assumed her missed period was due to that. She had like eight other children, needless to say pushing wasn't an issue, and ended up delivering him in the kitchen after finishing the dishes. I hope my delivery is that simple, but I could skip the chores.
  • I saw one where the woman did go to a doctor...several times. And because of her history with IF, they never even tested her.

That is the one episode that made me think it MIGHT be possible. The rest I think were in denial.

  • My friend's sister didn't find out she was pregnant until she was around 21 weeks or so. She's had irregular periods for a while, but I'm still really surprised she didn't know. She was complaining about not being able to lose weight despite diet and exercise, etc. I can't imagine not knowing.
  • I have a friend that didn't find out until 7 months, but I think she might have just been in denial.  She said she bled regularly every 28 days, but it was lighter than usual and she said she even went in for her annual OB/GYN exam and nobody said anything.  I'm not sure how much I believe her, but that's what she says.

I knew before I took the test, so I just don't get how you can pay so little attention to your body.

    Woah

Like I said I understand up until the third tri then I just find it hard to believe ppl don't know.  I guess it does happed though obviously.  You would think after 8 kids one would know.

Hmmm if she had and annual wouldn't her OB know by the color of the cervix?  That's weird....

  • My step sister has a son that is about 5 months younger than my DD. And she swears she didn't know she was pg until she was 7 months. She says she went to the doctor and they wouldn't give her a pg test (which is a load of crap. We had the same doctor at the time so I find that hard to believe.)  When asked why she didn't go down a buy one at the store she's always vague. My father and stepmother went so far as to threaten suing the doctor, which is so embarrassing and a whole other story.  I still say she knew and wanted to blame someone and was embarrassed that her baby daddy was 16.  I heard her tell her sister, after we announced DH and I were expecting again, that she wants to have another little one too. Indifferent

Not by the 16 year old I hope.  BTW...  I think she knew and she wasn't in denial.  She just didn't want to look like she was trying to be like you.

  • i used to love that show, but the dramatics got bad.

before i knew i was preggo, i told my mom i thought i was and she told me i was delusional, and basically faking my symptoms. ha, i showed her!

  • I had two aunts ironically twins both not know they still had somewhat. Of a cycle and were a little on the heavy side the crazy part is both stories ended badly and they were only months apart. My first pg I knew from day one but this pg I wouldn't know for a while I haven't been really sick, I like my family still spot during my time for the last couple of months and haven't gained any weight. So NOW I can understand it more than I did w my first

Yes he's 19 now and she's 20. He asked her to marry him, his mom actually bought the ring for him, when he first found out, but he admitted it was strictly so his son would have his name. The boy is three now and they have not tied the knot.  Its just a sad sad situation.

  • I never understood it either, 1st, ok, I get the minimal weight gain thing, but still, your belly changes shape somewhat (even for the very lucky toned and skinny ladies) and 2nd, I can see even not noticing in the 2nd tri because for some movement isn't frequent or strong but seriously, there's no mistaking a foot in the ribs once that baby is head down in the 3rd tri.

  • My cousin didn't find out till she was almost 6 months. She had taken an number of tests and they all came back negative. She finally went to the Dr. because she thought she had ovarian cancer! Turns out it was just DS moving. We still make fun of her for it. I don't get not knowing at the end though.?
  • I could have gone to 20 weeks, but once LO started kicking there was no mistake.

I saw one the other day where the lady didn't ever go to the doctor after having crazy cramps with what she thought was a cyst.  Even when she was gushing blood she didn't go, or call.  Then when she went into labor she didn't bother calling ANYONE... Then she didn't even go to the hospital AFTER she delivered her baby in her bathroom.  She waited like 2 days or something for her DH to come home from a trip, and was offended that he was pissed off and questioning her sanity.  I've never wanted to jump through the TV so bad to punch someone!  HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE?!

  • I actually do know someone.  She is in her forties, and is a very active person.   She misses her period all the time, due to her level of activity.  She figured she was gaining weigth due to getting older/ slower metabolism.  She was in the process of moving and clearning land while working which is why she figured she was tired.  She never had m/s.    She found out she was preg. when she was 22 weeks.   When she first felt kicks.   The 'quicking' stage she thought was gas.      She is not a druggie or anything like that, just a normal working person.

HA- I love that episode! "The pain went away and I felt something moving in my pants."

  • I didnt know with my 1st till around 20 weeks. but once I found out it all fit. I was on the patch at the time and had been for 2 years prior, I changed that sucker religiously so it wasnt a slip up there...I think it could have been when I took Cipro for a UTI...but idk. I was never really regular...never have been but I bled every month at some point. My OB thinks I had a placenta previa early on and that why I bled.  This time I didnt know till month two because my cycles were wacked out again and I was having one every other month. I can believe it with more overweight women and women with PCOS...but the skinny girls on the shot... yea right you felt SOMETHING
  • My aunt actually didn't know! My mom was pregnant and my aunt kept raving on how happy she was she wasn't pregnant! But, the reason(s) she didn't know was that 1. she was close to 400lbs 2. she had 1 or 2 periods a year and 3 she had really bad malaria w/atypical symptoms so she just thought the stuff that was going on was part of her malaria! Needless to say she was almost 6 months pregnant when her parents came to visit them in africa and her mom was pissed she hadn't told them she was pregnant! but my aunt was like "IM NOT!" she finally went two days later and got tested and BAM! She was shocked! haha :)

so it can happen, but these 80lb girls that don't know?! that boggles my mind!

  • I actually no somebody who was pregnant and didn't know it until they had the baby in the toilet...She's really overweight, and always gained weight in the winter, so assumed it was the usual weight gain. She always had her period, and because she was so overweight she said she thought that the kicking was gas or somethin (she told me but I don't remember what she said). I was in shock and that she didn't know! She's also a huge drinker and drank her entire pregnancy, she was lucky her baby boy came out healthy! Her baby daddy is a cop and he said he never even thought she might be pregnant...crazy story...i was in shock and at first didn't believe her, but she answered every question I had about the different symptoms...
  • Yep, the show is true.  I know an emergency room doctor who was featured in an episode.  I knew week 4 and was just waiting for my bfp but some women have no symptoms.
