XP: Holidazzle?

I am visiting my SIL in MN and we are thinking of taking the kids to the Holidazzle parade. Any tips/tricks/words of wisdom to share? WHere do you like to park? Do you head down there really early?

Any guidance you can give a couple of rookies is appreciated. Thanks!

PS - I usually post on the Parenting Board, since this isn't my "home" town. Thanks!

  • Hello here are some Tips (and things I do every time I go)

    1. Dress Warm

    2. Take the light rail down (much easier)

    3. Dress Warm

    4. Go down early & check out Macy's 8th floor

    5. bring canned food to donate

    6. Dress warm ... don't forget this one Big Smile it is very windy down there so it gets really cold

  • We were there on Friday for the first night and it was about as packed as it normally gets. I'd get there early. You can sit in the skyway, but you'd want too make sure to get a little early (again) so you can reserve a spot. As far as parking, try to get street parking as we parked in the Macy's parking lot and it took over an hour to get out -- and it was about an hour after the parade had ended! And with an unhappy baby, it was not fun! Or, as the pp stated, take the light rail. Much easier! And, to repeat the pp, dress warm!!!

  • Spots to watch in the skyway fill up really early.  If you're thinking of that, I would recommend getting there around 4:30ish and grabbing food to do a picnic.

  • Light rail is a great option, depending on where you're coming in from/where you'd park and get on.  Otherwise, if you park downtown and spend $20 at any of the stores you get free parking.  Depending on the ages of your kids you could eat after the parade and then getting out of the lot wouldn't be so hard.

The weather has been nice so far this year.....in the past we have gone and it has been well below zero.  Definitley bundle up and stand near Target (9th St.)  to watch it...that way if you need to you can duck inside and heat up before going back out.
