Xanax/Ambien and BFing

Anyone know if either of these meds are compatible with BFing? I have my 6 week on Tuesday and plan to talk to the doc about my semi-constant anxiety and panic attacks. I am also suffering from insomnia again for the first time in 5 years. It sucks to be exhausted and lay there awake for hours. I will also consider some natural remedies, but I know these meds have worked in the past

    You can take Ambien (one kind but not the other) when you are pregnant so I would assume it would be save for BFing...

    Hi I am having the same problem. However I use Zoloft. I take 100mg/ once daily and it is safe for BFing. I am also dealing with insomnia and going to get some ambien. My son sleeps through the night but I don't.

    When I was in the hospital they said they'd give me ambien, but I would have to pump and dump.

    Some things are safe while you are pregnant and not while BFing because when you're pregnant the placenta filters some of the meds.

    We are the same person! LOL!

    I have prescriptions for both of these medicines for the exact same reasons! My doc put me on them even though he knew I was BF-ing, but I read online that they're questionable while BF-ing. I ultimately quit BF-ing because it was making my anxiety WAY worse. I can't express how much better I feel after quitting.

    Also, I was always an insomniac, but I could get to sleep after about two hours of trying. Those two hours are gone with the LO, so the doc put me on Ambien after I literally got about 7 or 8 hours of sleep in the first 5 days of my LO's life. I haven't really been able to sleep at all without the Ambien since that time.  

    No natural remedies have worked for my insomnia, although I've tried. Wish Garden makes some tinctures that help my anxiety, though. They're called, "Stress Relief" and, "Serious Tension." I pretty much have to down twice the dosage, though.

    I don't know how the messaging works on thebump, but if you know how and ever want to message me, do! I can DEFINITELY relate.

    I just wanted to add trying to BF is what made me a mental case last time; my supply was always low, DS was never satisfied, after 9 weeks I gave up. 

    This time I started with FF and am not BFing at all. For me personally, it's been great. Even though I'm still doing almost all of the feeding, the stress is so much lower.

    It differs for everyone and I don't want to discourage BFing if it's what you want, but for me I've been able to enjoy this baby so much more because I'm not wigged out about BFing 24/7.
