TTC After a Loss

Future pg risk after later loss?

Hi ladies,

We just recently lost our baby, and I haven't had my post D&C appt yet.  I have a lot of questions I'm anxious to have answers for though.  I know that typically a first m/c is not considered to be a major risk factor for future pregnancies, but do any of you know how they treat a 2nd tri loss?  Are you seeing or will you see a high risk ob when you get pregnant again?  Will you be monitored more closely?  I know I'm probably a few months from joining you, but TIA for any advice!

Connor Thomas 6/6/08. Discovered missed miscarriage at 17 wks 3 days, D&C 11/25/09. Please, please, please - BFP 5/21/11, EDD 2/1/11. Beta@12DPO=52, Beta@14DPO=158. U/S 7/7/11 shows strong baby measuring a couple days ahead!!! Pregnancy Ticker

Re: Future pg risk after later loss?

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.  You are welcome to join us here.

I don't have any advice to share because both of my losses were early.  I hope the Dr.'s can help you find solutions for your future forever baby.

  • I just went through a 2nd tri loss and I had natural delivery and a D&C to remove the remainder of the placenta. I healed pretty quickly. They had me go in for a 2 week follow up not 6 weeks like most and everything was back to normal and he said my bleeding should be stopping in the next few days (last fri was followup) my bleeding stopped a few days after appt. Depending on your situation I think would depend if you are going to need a high risk doctor. My doctor said he didn't see a need for it this isn't my first pregnancy. I had with my son preeclampsia and with this past pregnancy I had the issue a little earlier then last so they were keeping an eye on that but what i lost my daughter to seems to not be a genetic issue with us that he can see thus far so in my situation I?m sticking with regular obgyn and not a high risk. He told me at my followup all baby making rituals could start back up when we were ready we didn't have to wait if we didn't want to for first cycle.

  • i'm sorry for your loss.  hope to see you around here soon.

i was in the 3rd tri. and had a c/s so my experience is alittle different. they told me to wait a year to TTC.  however at my 6wk PP checkup we discussed TTC in 6mo.  long story short i'd like to try for a vbac and they said i could start trying in 3mo after my c/s so here we are.

i will see a high risk ob.  i'll also have NST around 32wks b/c i had no amniotic fluid.  so i'll be monitored alittle more closely than normal but i went through basically the same stuff since i had GD w/ DS # 1.  i don' t think they'll do anything different in the beginning though, 1st doc appt. @ 8wks etc...

  • So sorry for your loss.  We lost our twin boys at 19 weeks...and as of right now, they have no clue why.  That being said, I will be considered high risk.  My OB will be monitoring me weekly starting at about 12 weeks although she said that if I wanted I could start at my 9 weeks appointment...which I probably will.  They will be doing ultrasounds at each check up to monitor heart beats but to mainly monitor my cervix.  I will also have cultures done regularly to make sure there is no infection.  I was also told that because I went into labor that I am at a greater risk for pre-term labor with future pregnancies regardless of it being twins or a singleton.  My RE will only implant 1 the next time around just in case this was due to carrying multiples.  I hope this helps.  Stay strong!  ((Hugs))

I am sorry for your loss.

I had a very similar situation as Schen0510.  I lost my boys at 23 weeks.  My water broke, and they are not sure why.  I will be very high risk next time around from day one.  I will also have to meet with MFM every other week for cervix checks and infection checks.  Pretty much this exact plan, but at progestrone shots until week 12, then starting again at week 20.  They also recommend that I never get pregnant with multiples again.

  • I lost my son at 23 weeks.  I think the increase in risk w/ future pgs depends on the cause.  My ob said that problems w/ the ut and cervix are more likely to cause future problems but problems w/ the placenta are less likely.  Next time, I will have my 18 week us at a level 2 office.  We will continue there if needed.  My problems were with the placenta so there is a low risk of recurrence.

I'm sorry you are here.  I would urge you to feel free to post here if you are comfortable doing so.  I started posting here before we started ttc.

Good luck to you and I am so sorry for your loss.
