Adoption

possible match

we decided to go the ivf route first...however there is a possible situation that would be an adoption without an agency. Basically there is a lady at a coworkers church that is raising her daughters oldest (3 year old) the mother of the baby aslo has a 4-6 month old baby that she is now unable to care for .  She is mentally slow and wanted to raise this child on her own but according to the babysitter its not working out and she is going to callchildrens services.  The grandmother cannot take another child and went to the pastor's wife and explained that she would rather find a family to adopt the baby instead of it going to foster care.  She is going to try to talk her dtr into going this route.  My coworker asked me if we'd still be interested (of course we are) so she will be speaking with the pastor or the grandmother tomorrow at church.  wish us luck!  I havce no clue how to proceed if she does decide to go through with this

  • Best wishes!

If it does go forward I am pretty sure each state requires a homestudy for adoption. Some states don't if it is familial. You would need an attorney and possibly an ad litem for the infant. If the bmom is under 18 she might need one too. Some states require counseling to be offered too. Your attorney will know all the requirements.

  • Good luck, I hope things can work out.  I would imagine you would want to read up on your state's adoption laws.  For example in Colorado we are an agency state, so I believe that we have to go through an agency or attorney to finalize an adoption, at least that is what I have been told, and I think that a homestudy is required no matter if it is private or not.
