Mango as baby food-a ? for those who make their own

I have 3 very ripe mangos in my kitchen that I will not eat. ?I know it is kinda early to feed baby mango since it is a tropical fruit. ?If I puree it now and freeze it will it be okay until he turns 8 months (which is about 6 weeks from now).?

Re: Mango as baby food-a ? for those who make their own

  • Have you checked out wholesomebabyfood.com ?  I know I gave DS mango-I think he was around 7 months old.  Most of what I've read says to use it in 1 month if possible but within 3 months is ok.

  • i would freeze it in chunks, then defrost/puree when you need it (and yes , 6 weeks is fine to wait!)

  • we did mango at about 7 months and he loved it and had no problems.  I believe the problem is more with citrus fruits than tropical.
  • I put frozen mango in a mesh feeder for P when she was about 6 months.  And I gave her pureed mango when she was about 7 months.  No problem at all.

But yes, if you wanted to make it and freeze it until he's 8 months it will be fine.  I think frozen purees are good for about 3 months.

  • AJ eats mango all the time. One of his favorites....he's been munching on it since he was 6 months old. Never occured to me that it would be a problem!
  • DS had mango at about 7 months. I read the skin of the mango is what most people have a reaction to. I either read that at wholebabyfoods.com or the book Super Baby Food.
  • DH is extremely allergic to mango (and all 'exotic' fruits and some nuts) so we won't ever be able to give DD mango...we can't even have it in the house (DH has to use and epi-pen and then get to emerg if comes in contact with or eats on of the MANY things he is allergic to.

Most books that I have say to use within 1 month of freezing....
