Supposedly it cuts acidity in a baby's mouth while teething and hence decreases discomfort. Or something. Amber is said to have natural pain killing abilities.
But as you might have seen in my previous post, the friends I know who tried it, discontinued use after a few days. And a woman who could have made a nice sale in a shop discouraged me.
Some also try necklaces made out of hazlenut wood.
Yes - they just wear it. In the words of another AP momma on this board " it's hippy voodoo". Amber is also supposed to help with headaches.

I bought two and my LO has been wearing for about a month or so now. He might have a little less teething discomfort but I'm not sure because his teething comes and goes in phases. They are cute though and I figure can't hurt. I got from inspiredbyfinn too. They have a disc code SAVE25 right now so they were pretty cheap

i swear by our teething necklace - Sydney started wearing hers around 5 months and we didn't take it off until a bout a week or so ago - once we got the necklace, we never had to give her anything - no Tylenol, Motrin, not even teething tablets - she had a fever from teething all day on Mother's Day and i could tell she didn't feel well because she wasn't her normal self, but no crying or fussing and no meds!!
her 2 year molars are starting to come in and i can tell they're bothering her - but the terrible twos are starting too and sometimes she decides she doesn't want to wear the necklace - i can tell the difference!

disclaimer: not my store, just my favorite source for amber/hazelwood necklaces after trying many different sources.
