BLW and Thanksgiving

Well we created a TON of converts with BLW this weekend!

On Thanksgiving, DD sat at the table between me and DH.  My mom has one of those Fisher Price booster seats that hooks right onto a dining chair.  She ate squash, sweet potatos, mashed potatos, vegetarian stuffing, green bean casserole, boiled onions and was given a whole roll.  She had a BLAST.  We even gave her a bit of blueberry pie for dessert.

Yesterday DH and I hosted a Black Friday party.  At DD's dinner time, we put her in this walker thingie a friend passed down to us that has a tray on the front.  We gave her leftover squash and sweet potatoes and some green beans and steamed baby carrots.  She drove all around the house greeting people while totally nomming down all her dinner.

Every exclaimed how easy it was to feed DD, what a good appetite she had, how amazed that she could consume things like a roll or carrots with only three teeth.  Two moms said that they are going to try BLW because it looks a lot easier than trying to force-feed their baby jarred purees.

Re: BLW and Thanksgiving

  • How old is your lo?  Since the tickers are down I've had a hard time this weekend.  I agree though, we don't blw as ds does get some purees but whenever we are sitting for a meal, he gets what we get.  The problem with ds is a milk allergy so we have to be very careful with what we give.  It seems like such an obvious concept though.  My point is though, how much will your daughter eat.  It seems as though about 25% of what is put in front of him actually makes it in his mouth.

  • She is 10 1/2 months.  When we started, most ended up on the floor but it's pretty normal and most nutrition comes from milk/formula.  But once she hit the 10 month mark it was a total 180 and she cleans her plate.

I was thrilled for Thanksgiving because everything is homemade, made by people I know and predominately vegetables which made for TONS of food she can eat and leftovers we can feed her for a couple of days.

  • That's so cool! My family was kind of like, "what the heck?" (DS isn't even 7 months yet) but I just tuned out if they said anything. It was more fun to talk to my 6 & 8 year old cousins who kept asking questions about DS :o)
  • That's awesome!  We did the same exact thing - and even had DD in a Fisher Price high chair in between us! But, unfortunately she skipped her nap and was too tired to stick it out for more than 5 minutes of the meal. She loved the cranberries and green beans though!
