Babies on the Brain

I dont EVER comment on how others raise their children

but when my BIL takes my 3 year old nephew to the *room to have a talk* and drags him yelling and screaming, it breaks my heart. My BIL likes to yell and scream and him and it breaks his little spirit.

  • I've never understood why people think yelling at their babies and toddlers is an acceptable form of parenting.

  • My BIL does it * all * the time. He will yell at my nephew and then doesnt know why my nephew yells right back at him. He tells him he is going to put him in his room and leave him there, which he never does. Its a hard thing to watch =(

  • I might be tempted to yell and scream at the BIL.....for say, being married into the family....

  • I can understand yelling at an older child as part of discipline, but certainly not all the time.  But a toddler?  Does your BIL think that your nephew understands what is being said?  Toddlers do better with reason.  You'll get a lot farther with a toddler telling them calmly why they cant do something rather than yelling at them.

I thought this was common sense but apparently common sense isn't so common anymore.
