TTC After a Loss

Intro...just miscarried today.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, because at this moment I'm feeling "ok" with everything and feeling confident/ready to try again.

Hopefully my stay here will be short, but in the meantime is there any sort of FAQ for this board? i just have general questions: do I have to wait 3 months to try again? Is my next pregnancy at increased risk? etc etc.

I'm sure you hear these questions every day and I don't want to be repetitive/newbish. Googling just led me to other forum posts. Anybody know of a FAQ or a good website to check out about ttc after a loss?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Intro...just miscarried today.

  • I don't know of any FAQ but this is not like the 1st Tri board where you get yelled at for asking questions. The only thing that gets the ladies here upset is if you never post and then one day post your BFP.

BTW, we were told by the dr to wait 1 AF to try again. I think everyone is different depending on your circumstance. I have read statistics that say once you have m/c'ed once your chance is 10% higher it will happen again. I don't know if that is true or not. My doc never said what chance we had of it happening again.

    Sorry for your loss.

  • Sorry for your loss.  My doc said that I only needed to wait one AF because I had an early m/c, but as mentioned above each each situation is different and each doc says different things.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss....and that you have to be here.  But I think you will find this to be a safe place to navigate miscarriage and TTC.  We are all in this together. Thanks for introducing yourself.  The ladies here do their best to make others feel comfortable.  So I hope your stay here is short and sweet.

When it comes to trying again, it's probably best to wait and hear from your Dr.  What you will find here is that although we all understand, none of our stories are alike.  Some women are instructed to wait, others get to try right away, it kinda depends on your story.

I hope that you get to try again soon, and get that LO in your arms.

  • Ask away.  I'm fairly new and ask questions.  No one has yelled at me yet.  I was told to wait 3 cycles to ttc, but dh and I think that it will happen when it's supposed to happen.  I don't know the statistics of your chance of m/c again, but I was told that 1 in 4 women miscarry at some point.  Many don't know it because they just think AF is late.

Sorry for your loss.  Hope you find the support here that you need.  I know I have.

  • Thanks Shall (and others!). I figured I'd definitely have to wait one AF cycle to try again, but some websites I found said 2-3. I'm seeing my regular OB Monday, so I'll ask him.

I decided that I'm not going to actively think about ttc until after the new year. No temping, no OPK, just NOTHING until I get through the holidays. We were supposed to tell at xmas, and I have adorable little U/S frames all ready for it, so xmas is going to be tough. I think adding ttc into it would make it unbearable.

So I guess I'm not really "ready" to try again, but I think right after the New Year (with OB's green light) we'll jump back on the ttc train. GL to you!

  • I am so very sorry for your loss.

Feel free to come here and ask as many questions as you need.  Everyone here is very willing to provide support and answers.  I had an easrly loss (probable chemical pregnancy) 5 weeks ago, and coming to this board has really helped me.  I hope it helps you too:)

  • Sorry for your loss...  For us, I had a D&C, so my Dr said that I had to wait 2 weeks before having sex and then 1 month before TTC.  I hope your stay is short and sweet!  Welcome to TTCAL!

  • I've also just m/c'd. It was a very early loss. I was also curious about how long until we could try again. I go back to my OB next week and will see what she wants to do (she mentioned a D&C maybe). Trying to read up on that so I can ask questions when I go. Has anyone here had to do that? Also, how long does it take to complete the whole mc process? It seems like it's never going to end. Luckily I haven't had any pain... it's just a reminder that I'm ready to get past.

  • I'm sorry for your loss.  The holidays are particularly rough, especially since you were planning to tell at Christmas.  It's just not fair, at all.

As for how long to wait, each person is different and it also seems that each dr is different.  I saw three docs (one for d&c, one for d&c follow up, and my regular OB who informed me of my missed m/c at the 8wk u/s) and each doc had different advice. The only thing constant was to wait until the first real AF after m/c.

You'll learn a lot here.  Don't worry about asking silly questions - just participate as much as you're able and wanting.  We're here for you.

  • I am so sorry for your loss.  As you have heard, we have all been told different things by our doctors....my doctor was most concerned with my emotional health and he wanted me to recover emotionally from my m/c before trying again. I am only just feeling emotionally ok (thanks in no small part to the ladies on here), But everyone is different.

I have never seen anyone get cranky about newbie questions....we're all here for each other, and hopefully your stay will be short. hugs.

  • My doctor told me that for an early loss they ask women to wait for one AF and then they can start again; for later losses 3 AF's.  My first AF took 8 weeks, so they told me I could start after 2 AF's w/ a late loss as it had been 3 mos.  But each doctor is different.  I'm so sorry you are here, but wish you a 2010 baby.
