Hi-
I'm new to this board as a poster.
I'm having short cycles (22-23 days), and have been trying for about 6 months, the last 2 have more seriously trying. My PCP told me to chart my BBT, but then my ob/gyn adamantly said stop. The ob/gyn thinks the temps can be too inaccurate e.g. if you get up in the middle of the night (which I do), take it at different times.
She ordered a progesterone and thyroid test, which they did on CD19. I'm getting my results Mon.
Anyone else have short cycles? Any words of wisdom?
Re: Short cycles? -dr. told me not to chart
Hi,
I have about 24 day cycles, but have had 23 the shortest. I never discussed it with my doctor. my periods and all have been normal. I am new to TTC, but I did research on it and never saw it as a problem

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
Your doctor didn't tell you to stop charting because you have short cycles. Your doctor is correct that if you don't get at least three hours of sustained, uninterrupted sleep, your temps could be inaccurate. For the doctor to adamantly tell you to stop makes me think that he/she is just not a supporter of charting. It's one thing to make a suggestion, it's another thing to be so adamant about it. Why are you getting up so much in the night?
Hi,
I charted for a year (was on the pill for a long time). I just got the hang of charting the last few cycles. I always had that clear thermal shifts in my temps in indicate O.
This cycle, I decided to stop charting and try OPK's. I got a positive OPK on CD10, and stopped using after that. I didnt temp before that, but on CD13 my temp was 97.7 which from past charts was my normal temp after O. for me, this was the first cycle that i felt my timing was right, the past cycle I didnt know what I was doing, lol.
Do you chart or use OPK's?
Jennifer
I couldnt agree more.
Hi there! Welcome to the board!
I have short cycles too, about 24-26 days and I tend to wake up often in the middle of the night or sleep at weird hours. However, I still always have clear thermal shifts even if the rest of my temps look a little funky. I say no harm in trying to chart for a few months. If you don't see a pattern in that time, maybe you could try talking to a doc again. A lot of doctors don't agree with charting for whatever reason but if you want to and aren't ready for other methods, I'd say give it a try. Good luck!
I've been off BCP since June '09, my cycles were so crazy after that. I figured it would not be possible for me to get pregnant b/c my cycle length was 14 days (thinking I wouldn't have a long enough LP). But, in October I got a BFP, 4 weeks later I had a m/c. I was really hoping with the miscarriage that I would at least have normal cycles again...but I'm starting to feel those AF like cramps and back ache so I don't think I'm in luck (it has been exactly 2 weeks since the m/c). I just got the OPK in the mail and plan on using it this next cycle.to help me figure out when I'm O'ing. I've heard that taking B6 will help lengthen the LP, although I'm still not sure if that is an issue. It was kind of funny b/c I had scheduled a dr's appointment to discuss my short cycles, but ended up geting preggers so changed the appointment to a pre-natal exam.
I only get up once in the middle of the night, to pee, and sometimes I don't at all...I think it's interesting that the PCP was all about it (and felt it gives you so much more info than OPKs for less money), and when I mentioned that to the ob/gyn, she just kind of trailed off...LOL she's the one who recommended the PCP.

If it's just once or twice, I bet your temps will be just fine. Do whatever you want to do! ;-)
I agree. Often I wake up shortly before my usual temp time and can't fall back asleep. I've found that as long as I continue to rest and don't get up out of bed, the temp reading at my regular time will generally be pretty in line with my usual BBT readings.
