I got "sock weight" yarn but they said I could just double it?

Does this mean to knit with 2 strings at once? How do you keep track? Obviously I should just try it but I'm nervous!!!!! Its sooooooooooooooooooo beautiful, hand painted, and 50% off. From what I can tell, its not as "blue" as in this photo but I have no idea how it'll knit up - AND, if I double it, how will the coloring be affected? Will it just be like confetti?

Thanks!

  • Pretty! I know that when you double with crocheting, you just use two strands. I've done it with one solid and one variegated, but I don't know what it would look like with two sets of varying color at once.

And I just sent you a totally unrelated PM.

  • you could try to pull out the yarn so that you have the pattern matched up, and then start knitting with it.. otherwise yea, i'd imagine you'd have a mixed up look

i could be wrong, but that's my guess

What if I put a brown (solid) with it? I wish I could find a pic of what it'd look like!
  • I think it would look good doubled with a solid brown, but the only way to know for sure is swatch... and yes, you just hold the two strands as if they were one strand. Doubled-over sock yarn is usually good on a size 6 or so needle.
