I am a Nurse but I work in a Home Health Pharmacy. I was teaching the mother about preeclampsia and fitting her for compression stockings as her legs were as big as telephone poles.
I was shocked to say the least. I literally began asking her about it. I really was uncomfortable and feel that it verged on inappropriate. This child is old enough to remember breastfeeding for the rest of his life...She asked what my views were as a RN..I told her there was no nutritional value to a child that old. I also told her that I did not agree with her decision. But, that it was her decision. I had to say that I did not judge her for it...but really I TOTALLY DID!
I also told her there were other ways to make a 5 year old feel loved, secure and comforted..
I am still disturbed by the image..can you imagine..
I wanted to ask if her 18 year old still breastfeed just to be nasty but I didn't!

Waiting since 07/5/2011 for our forever child! Yep we are adopting!
We had a student in my school last year who still BF'd in FIRST GRADE! The other students knew about it and told me "D gets milk from his mom". As if that wasn't enough, she still pumped and sent him a 'bottle' in his lunch bag.

I learned about it when I was watching the Duggars and they were on vacation somewhere.... all I can say is that I understand the premise but they looked super hot and I don't mean sexy!
I definetly don't bare much at the beach but thats excessive!
About the BF'ing until 5yo I say that that is going too far! I want to BF but not when they can remember it!
Mrs Umm... woah a bottle in their lunchbox! C'mon!
