She's TEETHING? WTF

My grandma had been asking me for the last week or so if Em was teething b/c she has become a drool monster and is crabby. I kept saying no no no, it's too early. My grandma said my mom cut 2 teeth before 4 months. I thought she must be remembering wrong.

Yesterday my mom sticks her finger in Em's mouth (gee, thanks mom Tongue Tied ) and says, "What's this bump?" ... and sure enough, Em has a swollen bump on her bottom gums. It's swollen all around, but you can feel a hard little dot on the top of it.

So, she's either teething or has some weird gum growth. Oh, and she's suddenly mastered rolling over and will.not.stay on her back. I can't leave her on her playmat for 5 seconds anymore!

My kids started teething early too. It SUCKED! Big hugs.

Oh...and if you like wine make sure you get a bottle. Not for her...but for you. Trust me...you'll thank me for it later.

Ari had all the signs of teething when he was about 4 1/2 months old - swollen gums, the cyst, & a small white bit of tooth. He was even refusing to nurse.

This went on & off for a few weeks then went away. Our pedi even confirmed the little white spot was definitely a tooth. Weird.

Don't panic! We had that hard little bump at 4 months... then it disappeared and she was toothless till her 1st birthday - and that 1st tooth was on top. ??!?!

Teeth can bounce up and down a fair bit before they actually cut. Your girl might be the same?

DD was drooly from 3-4 months on. But other than that? She's cut 16 teeth with no problems. We feel very lucky. (Trying to offer some hope here.

so does the "up and down" of the tooth hurt them?

I just want her to sloooow down! I don't want another baby for 4-5 years, I want to enjoy her baby-ness : )

Some kids? Yes. Others? No. Never bothered DD. Supposedly it didn't bother me, either. My mom said that I never complained about any of my teeth coming in.

Definitely enjoy your little baby -- it goes so fast it's ridiculous. If we ever get to have another they will be 5 years apart, too...

I was also shocked at how early babies can get teeth! And oh my goodness, the rolling over!! We had a rough couple days when DD learned to roll from her back to her tummy. We had to start swaddling her again so she wouldn't roll. Otherwise, she'd roll as soon as we put her on her back, then she'd be angry that she was on her tummy and start screaming!!

My dd got her first two bottom teeth right at four months. I wish she would have waited MUCH longer but honestly, it wasn't so bad. She bit me twice and never since. When she bit me, I pushed her face into my chest until she unlatched. She seemed to get the point.

We are teething and rolling over here too. We are doooooommmmed! She has also officially quit napping because she has better things to do.

have you thought about an amber teething necklace for her?? mine has been an absolute lifesaver! also, rubbing some higher-quality vanilla helped DD quite a bit too. the smell of it is really soothing and it has just enough alcohol in it to help kind of numb the pain for them without tons of strange chemicals and preservatives.

You know...for my kids teething was tough. But for my friend's daughter you could hardly tell.

DS started teething around 3 months and got his first two teeth just before 5 months. He was not miserable the entire time. Seemed to have a few good days, then a few bad days. It can definitely take weeks to months before you see a tooth after feeling those bumps! Nursing frequently seemed to help his sore gums. Otherwise just cold teething rings. I like the vanilla idea mentioned above! We tried Hyland's tablets with no improvement (though some mommas swear by them). GL!
