Did you get a spinal headache? Come in please!

I am darn close to 3 weeks pp and I still have a headache. It isn't debilitating anymore but it is still pretty painful. It doesn't kick in until around noon and then it gets worse as the the evening progresses. It is mainly when I stand up or bend over to pick something up.

Any end in sight? How long did yours last?

  • I had one once from a knee surgery - it was horrrrible.  I feel for you.  The only thing that helped my was coke - something about the caffeine... GL

  • I got one... it was awful.  I still get headaches- not everyday, probably every other, and they aren't as bad as that first week, so I feel your pain.  I still take ibuprofen when I get a headache.. the caffiene helps a little, but then makes it impossible to nap when DS naps (and I just don't like drinking a ton of caffeine).
  • I had one about 4-5 years ago, when I had a lumbar punture done. I could not sit up, stand, walk, eat or even move without pain.  I even had to call 911 to come help me. (i was by myself as my dh was training with the army somewhere) I was taken to the hopstial and given 4 iv's to get fluids in me. My potassuim was also low (btw that burns like hell when it goes into your arm), I was then sent to the anthesolgist to get a blood patch done, but there was really no point to it since its a 50-50 chance of it working, and I was poked 3 times for the lumbar punture.  He was very angry since when the did it he was not present to assist. I was given morphine, and alot of other narcotics along with caffine in my iv. (btw I was poke 28 times to get the first iv in).  I was then sent home with narcotics and caffine pills. He told me to stay hydrated get as much rest as possible and to at least have one soda a day.

I will say if you are able to function take some tyenol, and drink a soda, if you can not then call your doctor.

  • I also wanted to add that if your headach comes and goes it is not a spinal, those do not stop.  It very well could be from stress, but none the less it still hurts
  • I had an awful one the week after having my LO. I had to get a bloodpatch done at the end of the week because it was just so awful I couldn't get up. As soon as they did the patch the headache disappeared.

I still get migraines here and there but that's from not sleeping now.

  • I had one.  It hit me the day I came home and lasted 3 days before I did something about it.  How are you surviving...it was AWFUL!   I called my doc and they did a blood patch.  Just another epi but they put your blood from your arm directly into your back.  Not bad at all and immediate relief!!!  I laid there for about 15 min and sat up and it was gone.  You need to call the doc and explain symptoms (does headache go away when you lie flat?) .  gl!  Get it taken care of!
