FF-ers. Make-ahead question.

I know that you can make a giant batch of formula in the morning and leave it in the fridge all day and keep making smaller bottles out of it-- but what about making little (5-6 oz) bottles and just keeping them in your diaper bag?

I've just been mixing bottles as I need them (I don't make a big batch and keep it for later) but my husband's co-worker and family came over last night and the wife just kept handing her daughter ready-made bottles out of her diaper bag. I asked about it not being in the fridge and they said that it's fine.. as long as you don't keep it for "too long. Like longer than a day."

What do you do about making bottles?

Re: FF-ers. Make-ahead question.

  • I fill up bottles with water and then use one of those formula holders with the 3 compartments. I just pour the powder in as I need them. They are usually not good for more then an hour or so but i guess it may depend on the formula. I would read the back of the container.

We do the same thing, measure out the water in all the bottles and use the container to store the formula mix when she is ready.

  • i premake my bottles for the day, if i go out i put them in a tiny insulated bottle holder with ice packs.

  • At home we make a batch in the fridge, if out I have pre measured power and water filled bottles in my bag.  I don't pre mix, my  brand of formula is only good for 1-2 hours un-refrigerated.

We do the same thing, too.

Not sure what formula mix she's using, but leaving them made for the whole day in the bag seems like a really long time. Most formula is supposed to be consumed within 2hrs of it being mixed or 24hrs if stored in the fridge immediately.

  • Yes it's up to 2 hours unrefridgerated and 24 hours refridgerated.
