Re: Birthing Classes

  • I did not take any birthing classes.  My theory was that the classes might teach you one thing but the L&D nurses might want you to do something different that is more specific to you and your situation.

I asked the L&D nurses during my hospital tour about taking classes and they said "that's what we here for" so I trusted that they would help me through it and they were awesome.  They were all I needed.

  • I'm planning on getting an EPI too, but I still took birthing classes.  From reading all the birth stories on here, I have learned that anything can go wrong.  You may be planning on having an EPI as soon as you get checked in to L&D, but that may not always happen.  I wanted to be informed with all my options and have some methods to deal with contractions on my own.  Only time will tell if the time/money was worth it, but DH & I feel a lot more prepared and less scared now!
March 21, I find out how far along we are. :)
  • Our birthing classes taught a lot more than what goes on in labor. We had a Bradley instructor who was just wonderful. She helped the husbands learn how to be supportive during labor and about nutrition and exercises, etc. It was worth every penny.

  • I just saw you're in Long Beach - We found our class instructor from the Bradley website and she's in Farmingdale.
