? about lower BS in late Pregnancy

I know this has been asked before, but I can't find the post so please bear with me.  Over the last 2 days my BS reading have been lower than usual.  I thought that I read somewhere that the later in pregnancy or closer to labor that your blood sugars will level off or lower?  I just had my Glyburide doubled 3 weeks ago & now I'm starting to get numbers in the upper 70's & lower 80's? Does anyone know anything about this?

Re: ? about lower BS in late Pregnancy

  • Endo said this is common after week 35-36 - we actually just cut down my insulin for the first time in my pregnancy!

OB said not to worry unless the fasting AM numbers are 60 or below - then I need to call. I am also pre-e, so I am not positive if the low fasting # was for diabetes reasons or for pre-e, but that's all I know.

  • My OB said it was normal- it happened to me too around week 36.  It has been nice.  In fact, today I had turkey, gravy, a limited amount of stuffing, potatoes, sweet potatoes and a half a slice of pumpkin pie without the crust and my 2 hour number was 122.  That would have killed me before week 36!  I almost feel cured!
  • I just had my meeting with the diabetes educator today (just got my GD diagnosis last Friday), and he mentioned that the sugars could actually be lower than you'd expect once you get into the 34-36 week range.
  • I agree- I am not that far along yet but my endo and OB both said it might drop a little at the end. Plus, as a type1 diabetic- those numbers are good anyway! Not until below 70 would I start to be worried...
