I just let DD cry in her swing until she fell asleep just now. It was about 10 minutes. She has been miserably cranky for the last 24 hours. She is fed, dry, and just insanely over tired. I've taken her for a walk, rocked her, sang to her and everything else that normally works and all she wanted to do was cry.
I set her in her swing so I could eat something and just kept giving her back her paci and she FINALLY fell asleep. I'm hoping this nap lasts a while and she wakes up a happier baby.
Re: My FFFC will probably get me flamed
my mom yells at me when im sleeping and rylen wakes up and cries because sometimes we just try to say SHH SHH for awhile. usually thats all it takes and she says that were just trying to shush him so we dont have to get up. not true. i just dont feel like getting up for nothing. if he doesnt go bak to sleep after a few shushes then we know that its something else. =/
he doesnt sleep for much at night anymore neways
Sometimes DS is just fussy because he is way overtired. When I try to comfort him, it's like I'm overstimulating him and he just gets more fussy. I put him in the swing and give him 5 minutes of crying and he falls asleep. He is always much more pleasant when he wakes up!
If you were letting him cry for 30 minutes alone in his swing that would be one thing, but sometimes they just get too tired and it makes them cranky!
No flames.
I'm so not looking forward to the time when she's been crying long enough for me to let her cry and not want to pick her up. Or when picking her up doesn't work. When she's super cranky I put her chest to chest with me and rock her and she usually quiets down within 5 mins. It's pretty hard to have her screaming bloody murder in my ear. It makes us both cry
this.
You know, when I was on this board for DD1 (who is now 21 months) this probably would have gotten totally flamed! Glad to see people are a bit more reasonable and less stepford-wifeish..
We've noticed w/ DD2 that if she gets overtired and is crying no matter what we do and fights sleep bad at night, that holding her makes it even worse. But if we set her down for a couple minutes to cry, then pick her back up, she falls right to sleep (figured that out on accident one night DH was soothing DD1 and I HAD to pee. In the time it took me to go to the bathroom and come back, she had gotten all that frustration out and was ready to sleep
That's totally fine and now we know what works to get her to sleep when she's overtired
Some babies just need their space too.

dude, I do this.
Sometimes he is overstimulated, overtired, & just needs to "get it out" of his system. He'll cry for 10 minutes and then BAM, he's asleep & wakes up happier. Which is better for both of us in the long run.
