My new Beco just arrived this morning, and I'm super excited but I have a few questions for those of you who have used this carrier:
1. I assumed I'd need to use the infant insert - but DD's head seems to stick out the top when I use it. She's pretty tall for her age (she was 25.5 inches at 2 months - and I'm sure an inch or two taller now), but she's still under the 15lbs they say to use it for (she's probably about 14lbs now). So I'm wondering if she's just too big to use it?? I tried it without the insert, but I'm worried that her legs are spreading too far. What age and size did you start using the carrier without the insert? Are babies this age okay with their legs spread that far out?
2. DD seemed uncomfortable when I put her in (both with and without the infant insert). She's used to the Moby, which is obviously much softer and cozier (though I always have her legs out in the Moby, too, so it's not that different of a position). Did anyone else's LO not like the Beco at first? Any tips on getting them used to it?
3. Did you wash it before using it? I know it says to wash sparingly, but it doesn't specify whether it needs to be washed before wearing it for the first time... DD likes to suck on the Moby, so I'm thinking she'll eventually start sucking on this, too. I got the organic one but I know sometimes chemicals are sprayed on the completed product for shipping and storage purposes....
Thanks ladies!
Re: Beco users - a little help please!
Thanks for the tips. I'll try her with the insert as low as it will go and just let her head pop out and use the hood. Hopefully she likes it better this time around!
We got married at Ladera Resort, which is higher into the mountains above Jalousie. We did some photos down on their beach, though. It's a beautiful resort - you must have had an amazing honeymoon!!
DD did not love it at first either and after a bit it became her favorite of the soft structured carriers.
We started by putting her in when she was mostly sleepy so that she would get lulled to sleep once she was in it. Now we can put her in awake or asleep.
She does like her hands to come up through the sides though so she has some freedom.
